Subject: Re: using fish for bait ?

        Question :
Can one use Bluegills,Sunfish,Perch,Crappie  for bait?.

Crappie are consider a game fish due to  size and daily limits .

ALL above fish are  game fish

ANS: IS /  YES :  if the fish you caught by angling is in season,
and   meets the minimum size limit,
and is within your possession limit,    you can use that fish for bait.

ANY fish used as bait   counts toward  your daily limit .

Yes, sunfish and perch are considered game fish too.

using any blue gill, sunfish, crappie  as bait does it  count  toward your daily limit.?     Yes, see above.

Q..must they only be used , in same body water you got them from  to stop spread of diseases ?

ANSWER Yes, they can only be used as bait    ONLY in the same water body from which they were caught.

        thank you
I know its early for open water but though i would relay this  from  post in ice shanty.com

Not sure what you're trying to convey here. Is there a point to this?

Last few lines I think Bob.  Specifically the last line.
I think he's only bringing info from that "other" place over here for us to see.

I gave up
How many times can you discuss vex vs other depthfinders?  Etc.
And a year like this one, with little to no ice, they get silly over there.
Well.....sillier than here anyway.

🤣🤣🤣

Vex, Marcum, etc.
They are still flashers.
Lol

I had a Huminbird flasher back in the early \80’s.  These guys probably use sharpened animal bones instead of hooks.

Speaking of really old animal bones, ***censored**** has Trap been???

Hey Bob.  Where’s your little antagonist pal been?

I to have been around all that tech since the 70s ,went from flasher to paper to the more modern of today
They all give the same info just present in a different format is all
There are differences between the two

I have an FL-18 that was given to me by a friend. Most days on the ice I find it a distraction. I have a simple hummingbird in the boat. Mostly all I need to know is where the bottom is.

The boat is going down the road in the spring. No need for depth finders on the stream.....unless you're nymphing.

I use to own a fl18 vex flasher , dependable and indestructible
At least while trolling or ice fishing you know if your fishing dead water ,
Far as on the stream we are our own fish finders , (reading water) just like electronics some are better than others 😉🎣
If we lump all fish finders in a group they are all sonars

It's a definite plus most days on the ice. Only trolling I've done in the past 10 years iis on the canal for eyes.

After the boat is gone I might set up a kayak and explore the small waters around here.

That's a serious consideration Fred. I'm thinking I'm going to look at a raised seat design. But, I'm still in the beginning stages of looking. There's a good shop on Irondequoit bay that I'm going to visit. So many options out there today.

Same here Fred hurts my back and legs..

Bob what happened to your little pontoon boat????
Title: Re: using fish for bait
Post by: catfisher on Feb 07, 2020, 11:37 AM
Look for a sit on top fishing kayak with a seat that has a back support. Put in some padding on seat and lumbar support pillow. You can move your legs around so you don't cramp up. I have a spinal fusion from a tree stand fall and it works for me. Walmart has good selection and cheapest price.

That went several years ago. Great for rivers and streams, terrible for any kind of open water. Didn't track at all. Got back all my $$

Thanks for the advice Catfisher. So far the best yak I've looked at is the Bonafide SS127. Long time till I pull the trigger. But it's the best thought out craft I've seen yet.

That ss127 elevated seat looks like the way to go. Way better than what I have. I should have done more research. Now you're going to make me buy another one. THANKS.

Bob I have had an ocean kayak 13' I modified the seat so would raised and more comfortable...one problem is little less stable...considering some small pontoons. Have had it several years now and love it...gone fly fishing for gills and in saltwater for reds and sea trout...absolutely enjoy fishing from it.

That maybe but show me in the book where  perch are illegal To catch or  considered a game fish in NY , really unnecessary for the cuffs just write an appearance ticket
Once I intervened as an officer tried to arrest a person for keeping a trout that was in season hear but not from where she came from , they even threatened to arrest me , had to to the truck and read it to them I always carry a copy with me
