Title: dwaytkus's Chronicles(Multiple trips 7/3 Pg. 12)
Post by: dwaytkus on Mar 23, 2006, 07:26 PM
Well I was thinking about doing some open water fishing at work all day , so I made it to a local spot at about 5pm and didn't really care what I caught but just was enjoying the fresh air.  My line not being wet a minute and pulled in the first fish of the spring.  A nice perch which in the next half hour I caught 13 more.  Here is a picture of the first fish.

And I even managed this double.  ;D

Well I did some shore fishing yesterday and today I brought my wife and fished for a while.  The perch bite and bullhead bite is insane.  You can't keep two poles in the water for any length of time!  The perch seemed to be about 20 yards out from shore and the bullhead were a little farther.  I catch and released both days.  I was thinking of keeping a few bullhead to try but will wait till next trip.  I took only the one picture to show the average size of what we were catching.

Made it out yesterday after work to see if the crappies were biting yet, and boy were they.  When I arrived I tryed a spot that usually produces.  Hooked the fathead on and in the water, a second or two later and the bobber was gone.  In about an hours time I landed 20 crappies, 3 bullhead and 3 perch.  I also lost about 7 crappies at the edge of the water.  Here are some pictures of what I brought home.  I brought the 3 bullhead home to try them for the first time and Lance you were right.....TASTY!!!!   ;D

Well headed out late morning today with the wife to do some fishing.  On the way there I got this picture of a muskrat eating his breakfast.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fmuskratb.jpg&hash=4441a82657729e12056dc9970b34ea37)
With the rain on saturday and the slight drop in temp from friday the crappies weren't even close to biting the same today.   :-\   I managed to catch 4 crappies and a couple perch.  My wife ended up with a perch.  Here is a picture of me with a crappie.  All were released.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fcrappie4-2.jpg&hash=5403549cde5ed6764e92490e3420f877)
After hearing they stocked the local trout pond I decided to head out and fish the last couple hours of dark.  I managed to get this brookie and lost another at the shore.  Looks like I will be having a little redneck surf and turf tomarrow night for diner, venison and trout on the grill.....yyyyyyuuuuuuuummmmmm    ;D

Well I headed out after work tonight to a local trout pond.  I wasn't sure if I was going to have any luck because of the wind, cold and snow that was coming down when I got there.  :-\  But what the Heck, I was just there to be outdoors after a stressfull day at work.  :(  Anyway as for the fish not hitting boy was I wrong.  In about a 45 minutes time I lost 4 fish and caught my limit.  After having that one for the grill the other night as a teaser I decided to keep 5 for the grill for a full dinner...  ;D

Tim , they are stocked brookies.  The biggest was 12 1/4 and the rest were in the 10" area.  I have a spot for native brookies but the biggest you get is like 6" , but man do they have beautiful colors.

Well as I sat there at work today and people kept coming by my desk telling me how beautiful of a day out it was I said hell with this and took a 1/2 day off.  ;D  After hitting home for some lunch and a gameplan.  I decided to see if the crappies were biting again after the cooler weather.  Well they were and I ran out of bait catching them.  This is what I got.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fcrappie4-11.jpg&hash=686948a3cbc64bf6a43052d5819efad3)
After running out of bait I decided I wasn't done for the day so I headed out and did my first stream trout fishing of the year.  After seeing some pictures of the trout I have been catching a lady at work put in a request for a few trout to eat.  Well I didn't let her down and the order was fulled and then some.
Hey Wayne, that trout lure works VERY well!!   ;)  They just about rip the pole out of your hand.

And a picture of what I got total for the day.

Well when I got home from work tonight the wife suggested I go trout fishing and she wanted to come to watch.  So who am I to rufuse that order...  ;D   So we headed off to a local trout stream and I proceeded to tame the little beasts with my 4 weight and hares ear.  I got many little browns and they all went back unharmed.  Here is a few pics the wife snapped while sitting and watching.

Well headed out tonight to try and get some catfish or bullheads and we managed a few of each.  For me it was bullheads all night long.  My nephew managed two cats one nice one about 6-7 lbs and a smaller one about 3 pounds and his friend Matt caught a nice cat about 3lbs.  Here are some pics.
Notice the hitchhikers on this bullhead I got.  They sizzle good in the fire I hear....  ;D

Just to catch up on what I have been doing.
This past Saturday I headed out with Lance(BigRedFishing) for an all day panfish extravaganza.  We had a blast catching out limit over and over again and with the handyness of the livewell culling out the small ones.  We managed a few bass, a pickeral or two and a few perch.  I didn't take any pictures that day but to see what we caught check out Lance's page.
Sunday I headed out with the wife to do a little shore fishing.   I was targeting carp and she was throwing a worm out for whatever would tug on here line.  I did't have any luck with the carp but here is my wife with a little smallmouth bass that took the bobber under.

Today after work I headed to my favorite trout stream to try and complete my trout trifecta for the year and get some browns and rainbows on my flyrod.  Well the trout were cooperating very good and I landed somewhere around 12-14 trout.  I snapped a few pictures and off they went to be caught in the future.

Tim, the water there is very clear.  At all times I could see anywhere from 15 to 30 trout holding in the current and taking bugs as they come down from the falls.

Well did some opening day walleye fishing yesterday and all I could get to bite was bass after bass after bass.  :(   I hit up all of my good shore spots and nothing.  Here are a few pics I snapped.  I did manage to foul hook a BIG carp while cranking and boy what a fight that was.  Gave the 8lb test a work out.  Didn't land him though the hook pulled out close to shore.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fbass5-7a.jpg&hash=d0a6dabb305b860204af591d1b91e794)

Hit up one of my good shore spots this morning at about 5:20am and first fish of the day was MR. Walleye.  ;D  First one of the season.   16 1/2"

The Franks Red hot sauce just has a deceiving name.  It is not that bad heat wise and has a sweet flavor to it.  I eat it on all my friend fish and sometimes chicken as well.  It is a ingredient for most chicken wing recipes.  If you havn't tried it on fish, I recommend you give it a try. ;)

Well all day at work I admired the cloudy skies and thought of the rain coming our way tomarrow night  and I couldn't help but think, hey I wonder if the walleyes will be biting good tonight.  :-\  Well I hit one of my local shore spots, tryed a few lures that have worked in the past, tryed the one that worked sunday morning and nothing.  :-\  So I just happened to find the same lure that caught one sunday morning in my bag but different color.  IT WAS THE TICKET!!!!!!!!   ;D

Here is my first limit of eyes.  I ended up catching 6 total and I lost another one.  The sizes go somewhat like this.
13", 15", 15 1/2", 16", 18" and 21".  I WAS A HAPPY CAMPER!!   ;D

Good job sir.  We have a lot of up and coming walleye fisherman here on MFF like yourself in the last year or so who have caught the walleye bug and you're doing great.  Congrats on getting your first limit of keeper walleyes.  Even after all the limits I've caught over the years I still get REALLY pumped to do it again and again.  Now you have to try to limit out multiple trips in a row.  ;)

Well just got one tonight and lost one so no back to back for me.

Well headed back to my shore spot tonight and when I got there , there was a bunch of kids in my spot.   >:(  Where they were was were I had to be so I had to wait them out.  ::)  I never got to wet my line untill 8:30 and 5 minutes in, I hooked up with the first eye of the night.  Fought him for about a minute got the net, scooped and as I scooped the walleye dove and hit the edgo of the net and off he went.   >:(

About 15 minutes later hooked up with another one and didn't miss the net job on this one.  However he was only 14 1/2 ".   :'(  So snapped a pic and back in to grow up.

Well once again hit up my shore spot and had to wait. Finally got to wet my line at 8:30pm.  At 8:50 I hooked the first walleye and after a bad net job , he was off to live another day.    >:(  About 15 minutes later hooked up with a nice 17 3/4" walleye.  I then casted for a while longer and at one moment said to myself 10 more casts and call it a night.  While three casts into my countdown , WAM 22" B-E-Atiful walleye.   ;D
Here are some pics.

on that heavy of an arrow...fletching do absolutely nothing( i used to be an archery tech at bass pro..sponserd by PSE)...the fletchings are just something else to get in the way and they plane out the arrow in the water...try your bowfishing rigs with out them pgkris..you wont see any flight difference through the air.

Caught him in champlain.  For what I was casting and it not surfacing I thought I had a huge walleye on but wasn't the case.   :-\

If you prepare the fish like one would an ocean fish, you will find the drum quite tasty.
My wife bakes the fish and pours a cream/bacon sauce over it that is to die for.

I heard that drum was good eating also.   But i think the younger smaller drum are the good ones.  You can also pic the otiliths out of the drum and dry them out and they are supposed to be good luck.

One time i was casting big rapalas at night for walleyes and got into some big drum.  they really smack the plugs and are very aggressive fish.  I thought I had a huge walleye on at first also untill that big ugly silver mug showed itself.  LOL

That is one big a$$ drum though,  good catch.

When I set the hook it just felt like an average fish because It was swimming toward the boat , but once it got past the front of the boat the drag was a squeeling...   ;D

No ADkroy I forgot all about the stones untill the next day.  O well.

Well sat all day at work and planned on trying my walleye spot after dinner.  About 10 minutes before punch out time from work that storms hit....Dammit.....   >:(

But after dinner the storm had stopped and I said well no sense in sitting here just go and give it a shot.  :-\   I caught a couple small mouths and foul hooked a huge sucker.  Probably about 14".  Then just as I couldn't see anymore the first walleye was on.   ;D  Now I am happy because one is perfect for a dinner for me.  I then casted for about 15 more minutes and started my 10 count.  On number 4 wam fish on!!! And its a nice one.  Just before he got into netting reach off he flopped.....    >:(   :'(  So I ended the night with just a lonely 16" .

Nice eye.

Stinky T-storms. I got blown off the Ausable yesterday and drove home in a hurricane on the N-way.  Then I hit the pond for about 20 minutes this evening and got two before the thunder got too close for comfort.  My lawn is a foot high.

At least the rain is keeping the rivers cool.  ;)

Well after a weekend of not doing much I decided Sunday night to try a new walleye spot.  I took the bow with me knowing I would pass my bowfishing spot on the way.  I managed to get this nice carp in the 20 minutes I was there.  I would say he was about 10lbs.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fcarp6-4.jpg&hash=2ec62d80d460d3ffa1c775942fd6437b)

I continued on and fished the new spot untill about 10:30 and managed only this little guy.  I didn't measure him but new he wasn't legal.  I would say 13"-14".

Well did some fishing in my boat Saturday on an adirondack lake with BigRed (Lance) and although the wind was not ideal and water was rough we managed to boat several fish.  I didn't take any pictures but I believe Lance will be posting one.  I think last count was 6 different species.

Decided to try out my walleye shore spot tonight and see what I could come up with.  The water was high but fishable and managed to catch this 15 1/4", 17 1/2" walleyes and this 24" northern pike that I decided to try eating.

Yeah I got one of them on the slushey.   ;)
The Pike on that lure that never catches anything.   ;)

Pike are descent table fare in the wintertime.  Never have kept one during the open water season so I wouldn't know how they taste this time of year.  They are also very bony, unless you know how to filet them properly.

Thanks to this board I remember seeing a post by GRUMP on how to fillet out the pike, so I jumped on and refreshed myself and it was as easy as he made it look in the pictures.   Thanks GRUMP.

Headed out after diner tonight to my walleye spot and the night started off really slow.  Some kids were just leaving and one said he caught a 19" walleye and threw it back......   :-\  Well more for me.   ;D  Anyway, casted for a while with not much happening but what I have learned the most about walleye fishing is you HAVE to have patience!!!  Finally at about 7:45 landed my first walleye.  I followed this one up with another at about 8:15 another at about 8:30 but a short 14 1/2" incher and then the last one at about 8:45.
Here is the shorty.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fwalleye6-13.jpg&hash=a113578f5c412c3946ab1d8a5098eabd)
Here they are
15 1/2", 16" and 18".

And had a cool little find inside the 16"er belly, a little sunny.

Got out today with my brother and nephew to do a little bass fishing.  After spending 2 1/2-3 hours fishing in the rain it finally cleared and we were able to dry out and actually enjoy the morning.  We caught alot of fish between the three of us.  The biggest being a 3.5lber.  We saved a few in the livewell to take some pictures of at end of morning.

Well I havn't posted anything in a while, not that I havn't been fishing just not puting up any pics.   So here are a few.

Did some shore fishing before the rains came and all I managed was this freshwater drum and no walleye.   :'(   I took a pic for the anything category in the tourney only to find when I got home I wasn't even close to be in contension.   ::)  The fish was right around 27".
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fsheapheadentryc.jpg&hash=1e2afc45d4123fd956562f54a9b89290)
Having taken friday off from work to extend my long weekend from 4 days to 5,   :clapping:  a buddy of mine and his son hit Cossayuna up and we all managed to catch several small bass but nothing picture worthy.   :'(
Checking on my walleye spot Saturday night to see how high the water level was I was surprised to see the waters were very fishable and at perfect level.   :)  So I decided that was where I would be Sunday night.  Sunday night came and produced two short 14" walleye's right off the bat.  Here is a pic of one.
 (https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fwalleye7-2b.jpg&hash=4cfa13fda713f2120ef79dbec5517726)
And I did manage to catch this nice 18" for the frying pan.   ;D
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi56.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg180%2Fdwaytkus2%2Fwalleye7-2a.jpg&hash=1a77736179d5152c8bdcafa38c821fdd)

Just as I was getting ready to leave I hooked into a drag squeeler, and had a feeling right from the start it was another freshwater drum.  After about a 15 minute battle, or should I say him fighting and me just holding on I finally got him to the net.  I didn't take a picture of him but did get a quick measurement and he was 29 1/2".  My guess would have to be around 12-12 1/2 lbs seeing he was noticable bigger than the 11lber I had caught about a month ago.
Monday morning was a EARLY start and Lance (BIGREDFISHING) and I got on the water to try for some walleye's.  Once again Lance took me to school on the walleye's but I had a great time netting them for him......   ;D   ;)  Awsome job Lance.  We managed to put some bass and some panfish in the boat and all in all had a beautiful day on the water.  Here is a picture of Lance with two of his 3 awsome eyes on the day.
