Maybe it was one of the ice fishing tourneys. Had me and my buddies all scratching our heads. Chief common you know I'm back on my Oneida lake die hard grind !  And Danny b I'm heading up to black lake the 15 of may. I hope the weather warms up for the crappies last year was tough.

What do you think this late ice will do to the walleye opener?
Will they spawn later with the water temps being below average?
It could be interresting

It's definitely going to be a late spawn.

I was talking to the guys at the hatchery, Usually the walleyes are spawning this week,He said ice cover this late in the yr the walleye may spawn under the ice. not able to collect there 320 million eggs. He told me as well as water temp, the amount of hrs of day light also dictate the spawn. I volunteered two yrs ago,and worked at the hatchery, They have quite the operation there.
If it was easy they would have called it catchin, not fishin

Has the ice softened up over the last few days?  I've got a camp on the south shore and I'm worried we're going to see huge ice pile ups if we get big wind.  The ice was so thick this year.

There is still a lot of ice out there, it's just starting to soften by the shore. Eyes will be up in the creeks on opener for sure this year.

shut up and fish

Is it really still that locked up?  Any bullheads running in the creeks yet?  I'm hoping to get these worms dunked by the weekend
