I have also bought blanks on eBay but have found a lot of blemishes and inconsistencies in them. No matter who you buy blanks from, the prices are up as the same for everything else. Shipping can be free if you hit it right and buy over a certain amount. I usually wait and buy a half dozen blanks and components at a time and combine orders with a rod builder friend of mine when they offer free shipping.
One thing about mud hole I liked was the fact that I could call them up and actually talk to someone that knew what they were talking about and was able to answer my questions.
