A Modest Success
« on: Aug 20, 2022, 07:06 PM »
My younger son was eager to test his new foldable kayak (which I didn't know was a "thing" until he got it), so today we went to kayak and fish Pelham Lake in Rowe followed by a little fishing at Wilcox Hollow on the Deerfield in Shelburne Falls.

We headed out around 10 AM and arrived at the Lake about an hour later.

The weather was sunny and warm (80 or 85 degrees) with a slight breeze.

The kayak performed as advertised at the Lake.  It's a one-man model, so my son would use it while I fished from shore, and then we'd swap.

Between us, we caught a mix of sunfish and perch.

My son had a couple largemouth on, but they got away, although I did see two other fishermen (a woman in a kayak and a guy on shore) each land a bass in the 2 pound range.

At Wilcox Hollow, the Deerfield was disturbingly low.

We each caught a few small mouth - - the first time I can recall ever landing any there - - and I landed the big fish of the day (a 12" specimen), although my son briefly had a larger one on that broke his line.

We finally left Wilcox Hollow a while after 5:30 PM, and reached home a bit less than an hour later, wearied from our labors and ready for dinner.
