What’s worse....?

To go fishing with a net, and not need it?

Or, to go fishing without a net, and need it?

Inquiring minds want to know....

Yup...leave the dock with no net and NEED IT! lost a keeper salmon.
Went back to the dock for the net right after that.  :(

Yep, need it and not have it. I bought one after I lost a monster trout at the dock cause I couldn't get it out.

Last weekend we needed it and didn't have one. Yesterday we had one and was only used on a couple catfish.

Had an issue on the CT River during a Bass tournament some years ago.

A very large Pike ate a senko and the rip roaring battle was on

After a while the beast settled down, came back to the boat for the 3rd or 4th time and my partner tried getting it into the net. Head first attempts failed because the fish was too long and kept falling out. Next attempt was tail first with the same result. We then tried centering the beast over the net and gave him a good bounce and he ended up with his belly in the bottom of the net with his head and tail still sticking out. We finally got him in the boat. He was 42 inches  long.

The net is roughly 20 inches wide and 18 inches deep. It's the rubber type mesh with adjustable handle

One heck of a great day on the water

Don't even own a net... if something is too big or dangerous to grab with my hands I've got .40 that should make them a little easier to handle lol...

This is my mantra in life, regardless of if it's fishing, hiking or even just driving to the store:

It's always better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

How many times do you hear (or say) "I wish I had brought my ......"?

Just food for thought.

Strongly suggest a net on a large Pike
Never lip them or your fingers will be shredded

As will your spirit.

Saw someone do it in real life before with no gloves. lost feeling to his ring finger.

I like your style, even if it is a .40 Slow&Weak  ;)
It’s not being Cocky if you can back it up.

Looks like we added a new item to the fisherman's excuses list

Net was too small

It's a great problem to have and adds to the stories we love to share

I use one shore fishing for salmon in early spring bc of elevation reasons around winni from where one would stand vs. where the shoreline is. Besides that I don’t use or carry one. However rest assured I can serve as a great net man and don’t bone fish. One wouldn’t believe how bad some guys are at netting, gaffing, harpooning, etc. many a fish has been lost that way.

Amen to that one

It's a net, not battle axe

Slow and easy does the trick
