I can't even imagine throwing a baitcaster/casting rod in this cold. Scraping ice out of the eyes every 2 seconds

Well you better hurry up and join a club that's Federation affiliated...   
I have a lot of friends who have tried and it never panned out for them....
And its always fun to fish against them in local tournaments and beat them...

Once pike fishing hits a tournament level that's when I'll make my move

Just one of those things I never got into. I dunno if I could sit in one spot and jig or watch for tip ups. One day I'll quit being such a looser and try it
