I fished the South Hoosic yesterday, from Cheshire Harbor to Old Stone Mill.
It was cloudy, damp, 55 degrees.
The water was still higher, faster and colder than I prefer, but better than last week. Nevertheless, I didn't get any hits, much less catch anything.
Today I fished the North Hoosic, by Natural Marble Bridge State Park and below Eclipse Mill dam.
It was sunny, blue skies, 65 degrees.
Again, the water was higher than optimal, but an improvement over last week. And again, no action.
I headed to Greylock Glen, and fished my go-to stream there, where I was rewarded with a surprisingly chubby 8" brook trout.
I also made a few casts in the Gazebo Pond at the Glen. No hits, but I did see quite a few black salamanders - - which were so preoccupied with other matters (mating, I think) that I was even able to scoop one up in my the palm of my hand before releasing it.
