I fished the North Hoosic in North Adams yesterday morning.
Overcast,75 degrees. For the first time since April, the water was actually "low," although the water itself still seemed fairly cool.
I fished by Natural Marble Bridge State Park and then drove to below the Eclipse Mill Dam.
My only fish of the day - - a 7" brook trout.
Today, I fished the South Hoosic in Cheshire and Adams this afternoon.
Partly sunny, 78 degrees. Water levels were (relatively) normal, and fairly cool,
I started at Old Stone Mill and fished to ALADCO. Nothing.
Then I drove to Cheshire Harbor and fished below the dam. Still nothing.
Then I drove to Cheshire Center and walked downstream along the Bike Trail about 1/4 mile and started fishing.
At first, all I caught were a couple sunfish (relatively unusual for the Hoosic, although more common in this section of the stream).
Finally, in the bottom of the ninth (so to speak), I hooked a nice 13" rainbow.
At first, I thought I had a snag, because initially it didn't strike but just sat there. Once I had my rod tip up and started to pull, however, the bow began to actively resist, and put up a pretty good stiff fight till I beached him.
