So there's this little lake that no one ever see someone fishing.
Rick & I decide to see what it is all about.
It's got some 20 foot for a max depth and a good stiff break line once you hit 10 fow.
It's only 200 acres or maybe a bit bigger.
It has a ton of lilly pads growing all around the lake.
We are tossing buzz baits right through all of those pads when this guy tags my bait on the outside edge of the pads.
It was a hard smash on the waters surface.
There were a few more that we caught, but nothing boated were any bigger. We did manage to hook up on 2 others that spit the hook when they made their mighty leap into the air and by the looks of them they were bigger than the one in the picture.
The buzz baits started to take their toll on our arms so we switched over to a jig and sassy shad in a 3" black and pearl with a 1/4 oz white jig head.
As we trolled the pike would hit those shad like gangsters.
After around 6 or 7 -3 lb'ers I managed to hit this 33 incher.
It was a girthy brute that gave me a great fight while I was using my Grandt 6' medium action rod.
I'll say it could take a lot more fight albeit that pike made several runs.
No leader or nothing.
I was a bit lucky with the jig placement on the side of it's mouth.
Once I saw the line was not in his teeth i really laid on the heat.
Watch the video. It's too bad the motor was running for most of the fight as that pike had my drag just a singin!
http://s65.photobucket.com/albums/h209/palisade1kid/?action=view¤t=Picture070.flvThe pike seemed to be holding in the 8-14 fow.
Se we battled them right into sunset & then tagged a bucket full of small sunnies & crappies. Nothing worth keeping ,but I can tell that I fished today.
These guys were doing the same thing we were doing.
The ducklings had to be dodged of coarse on our way in.
and the sunset showed off these clouds in the most prettiest was.
What a day.
