Don't sit around and let things happen. This Sturgeon was taken out of season a week or 2 ago and no one really did anything about it. This fish was taken at the 6th street dam in Kalamazoo ,MI.
People took pics of him taking the fish and of his license plate but so far nothing has been done about it. This fish is older then the guy taking it , and from what I was told as soon as he landed it he ripped his gills , stringered it and headed on his way before DNR could show up. Hopefully he'll get cooked.

what does one do with a bottom feeder that is older than most of the dirt in my yard?
-
Thats outrageous! >:( Send that pic to the DNR! Come on now!
-
Here in NYS we have a DEC tipp line that you can call when you see retards like that keeping fish out of season. That guy should be put in jail as far as i am concerned! Does your state have a phone number that you can call to turn in poachers???
-
The amount of pictures taken that guy should be strung up just like that poor fish....... >:(
-
Why is he walking away without lumps on his head?? I see 3 grown men standing there doing nothing but taking picture's. Another case of "I'm not getting involved". What a shame that we cannot stand up for whats right anymore, no wonder our Country is going to pot. Scared to Man-up!?
Post his license plate on here or PM me it and I'll write a letter to the DNR. Heck, have everyone write a letter!
-
Absolute crap. What do you do with it anyways? Do people eat them when they are legal to take? Has anyone tried them before? Do they actually taste good?
-
I've heard about the stergeon spearing season, I think its Michigan...wonder what stergeon tastes like?? ::) ;D
-
What do you do with them? Caviar. Very expensive. Roe is poached all over. Here in Indiana we have a problem with people poaching paddlefish for the roe. (The IDNR knows this and is constantly on the lookout for these people. Doesn't hurt for the public to help a little too. We no longer have a paddlefish season in Indiana - could it be because of the high level of poaching?)
-
We fish for Shovelnose Sturgeon here, LEGALLY of coarse. They are Delicious, I boil it in 7up and dip in hot butter. You can also bread and fry like normal. The Shovelnose don't get as big as the illegal one above, usually about 2-3 lbs. We also have Pallid Sturgeon here which are on the endangered list and they're a big nono to keep! If you catch one you release it immediatly. Hopefully someone catches this egghead before he does any more damage, I'm with you guys string him up!!!

thats out rageous, i wish i were the dep officer for a day!!! :nono: :police: :cursing: :police: :thumbup_smilie: :police: :clapping:

WHO TOOK THE PICTURE???
Where is the driver liscense #
This appears to be a gross violation of the law.
People gotta step up, can't b_tch w/o action.
I would bet you would see the same guy in the same location sooner or later.
-
absolutely, these kinds of people have no regards. :cursing: :nono: :police:
-
I wasn't there but there were photos (Tons) taken of the guy and his plate and from what I hear, it's in the works to get the guy. But If it were me he would have never got in his car because once he is gone and the fish is gone where is the proof by now? But it really ticks me off that people didn't do to much. Someone supposedly called 911 but by the time the responded if they did he was gone.
-
You would think that if they did locate this guy the picture would be proof enough to convict him of his illegal catch. I think the guy on the right hand side, taking a pic. and a reel on the left would know better than taking a picture instead of calling the authorities..........that is awful to see something like that be taken illegally especially how old that probably is............ every state should have a tip line like NYS if they don't already.
-
That makes me sick evrytime I see the pics! 3 people standing around and NO ONE SAID A WORD! They should be charged as well!
-
Only problem that I can see is that there is no dates on the pictures. So the officer can not prove that he caught that out of season.
-
There were more then 3 people there were about 15. And with 15 witnesses I don't think a date on the pic would matter.
-
15 people and this guy was still able to walk. Call 911 and report a "killing" in progress, give the dispatcher the type and color of the vehical and plate number with location. Something other than just taking pic's.
-
Before we get too up in arms about the guy with the cell phone - what if he was just walking in the park and doesn't know about fishing laws? He saw a really big fish and a guy with it and took his picture. Possible, isnt it? As a hunter and fisherman I would probably done the same thing but being from Indiana I would not have known that it was out of season for Michigan. (If I would have suspected something funny then I may have called the tip line - Michigan has one also. If you call and you are wrong at least you did something. If you ccall and you are right then action can be taken bytthose with the power to do so. I have called a tip number in the past and will do so in the future.)
-
i can see that at least one of the pics is from a cell phone and I know that most cell phones automatically have the date stored in them under the properites and there is no way that I know they can be altered. 52niner, where did you get the pic from and is that person contacting the authorities?

Yes, but the guy with the cell phone that is taking a picture is holding a rod in his left hand and I am presuming that it his and if so, he should know that that fish is out of season and if he doesn't he shouldn't be fishing.......
-
There is not much you can do other than take pics and call the authorities.
If you touch the guy it will be you going to jail and not him.
I have seen this happen personally.

Sturgeon From Last Weekend in the North Gap
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Check this out. A friend gave me these pictures. 5 Sturgeon were caught last saturday all by the same 2 guys. Talk about wierd. I have attached 3 pictures of the biggest ones. They were fishing for walleye with worm rigs and ended up hammering 5 sturgeon instead! These fish must travel in schools I guess and probably come up here to spawn. The biggest one looks to be 100lbs! All fish were released unharmed. All fish came out of the north gap on this passed Saturday, May 23rd, as you can see in the photos. Pretty cool. Just thought I would share this. BUFFALO NEW YORK
-
those are some nice catches. I work downtown and look at the water at the exact same location the fish were caught. that is great and seems catches of lake sturgeon have picked up a bit in WNY, have been reports of catches in Lake ontario
-
Why is everyone talking about beating the man up? Yes I know it was a huge atrocity what he did but there are other ways of stopping him and keeping him there, say maybe park a vehicle behind his so he could not pull out of his parking spot. Beating him up would achieve nothing but charges placed against you. Im sure with those good photos and the liscence plate number the DNR will tack him down and deal with the issue.
-
I hope these men take him :police: .
-
Ok, Say 15 people whoop him and dont call the DNR. Lesson learned right? Braggin rights or a broken nose and some black eyes. Send him to Indiana in the backwoods... We will have a "Talk"...... ;D
-
that would be some great hauls out of the north gap, i fish there in the summer alot. theres an awesome hole right off the wall with some PERFECT sized walleye gorging themselves in it

What a loser. Ive never seen that kind of sturgeon before but I have seen an atlantic sturgeon a few times truly magnificent creatures. I probably would have cut the a holes stringer.
-
Would this have changed anyones mind about physically stopping the guy if you were at an isolated spot? I've called our RAP line here in Michigan (Report all Poaching) on guys tons of times but I won't physically try to stop them, there are to many crazy people here in michigan. I know some guys that carry firearms Icefishing and it's like what the hell do you need a gun for on the ice. I fish in fear lol

i agree with that. It definitely isn't worth getting shot at. I would much rather call the authorities and follow the a**h*** while talking to the local DEC or what have you as someone from a previous post mentioned. i would also make it a point to let the person know that i was following them and hopefully not getting shot at in the meantime :D

2 per county. its going to take at least 30 minutes for the nearest one to arrive. I can be who ever I want on the internet........ :flex: :rotflol:

why didnt the people who were busy taking pictures step up and either whip this guys as or actually do something?
-
Sad state of affairs indeed ???
