I pulled some up while I was there this past weekend.  That's what Lake George needs, clearer water!!  LOL!

The Zebra Mussels have been in Silver for quite a while now!

Silver was about the last, but has had them for a few years now.

Alright- I trust both of you guys.
The question now is if I was blind to it, which is of course possible. ???  8)
I hadn't seen them, but I know for a fact that I fish her more than either one of you...

You definitely fish it more than me, thats a true story!
But maybe you just dont scruff things up from the bottom as much as i do!  ;)

I think I have caught more bottom treasures out of that lake than actual fish!...lol
And everything that I bring up from the bottom has the mussels attached to it.

just to let everyone know, 3 or 4 years ago I had a discussion with TONY from new york about the zebra mussell. this topic is the reason that the grumpy ole men thread started. I feel that the mussell is a threat to sport and recreational fishing. Tony argued with me about the plus side of the mussell. I stated about the minus side. this topic went on for weekks and just about evolved into IRAQ. there are many plus and minus's but the end result is, this is an invasive species. help to keep our waters clean. perform  maintainance on your water craft. CLEAN THEM OFF!!!!!! only you can help prevent the spread the threat of the mussell.

I certainly don't mean to start a GOM thread here. I am just concerned, HIMO.
Who is TONY?

You're pretty good at it, too.  ;)

Well Lake Georges water clarity has gone down hill over the years so they may just bring it back to the way it was. I would rather not have them in the lake but I always try to think on the bright side of things.

Another factor in the lower numbers of zebra mussels is that round gobies are supposed to love them, which cormorants eat the gobies. So that maybe one factor, also the mussels filter the water and build up contaminants which may also lead to their decline.

i cant see how gobies would eat mussels, they have no crushers in their mouths and seem to be too small to eat them shell and all? please dont confuse the 2 tonys mentioned in here. 1 knows his stuff and the other is a wanna be. im talking buffa and boscoe. you decide which one is which lol. its the good, bad and ugly stories here. sheepshead for sure eat zebras and maybe carp, the rest who knows. ny has the money to do more studies on zebras. if not just raise taxes higher and give some half a## reasoning to cover their butts.

It has been proven that gobies are eating zebra and quagga mussels in the great lakes.  Zebra muscles are eaten by a lot of fish.  I have found them in Lake trout, sheephead, and bluegills.

I believe they make a line called "flea flicker" that spine flea has a tough time sticking to. It's flat not round. Just what i was told, I haven't personally used it.

Dare I ask why you where cutting up a sheepshead? Did you eat it?

I was not cutting them up.  They crap them out on the floor of the boat.  Same with the lakers.

The flea flicker does work but it is really stretchy.  I use Ande 30lb. pink line.  It works great.
