hey whos in on the catch and release of panfish. I have heard some very startling information about the extremely low numbers of smelt and a huge lack of freshwater shrimp in lake Ontario. this in turn can only hurt our perch and other panfish that find the depths for summer feedings.

lets practice catch and release, save a few, but conserve the present.

catch and release since the late 40's,and still do,if i can eat the fish in two days
i put it back, but all people are not in my shoes and i am not in theirs, one must do
what they think is right.
lake ontario's panfish are low because of LOTS of different things the list is long
with the sportfishing near the bottom
my list[not in order]
1-mussels
2-birds
3-salmon[west coast type]
4-non native minnows
5-non native aquatic -insects,plankton,zooplankton
6-commercial fishing
7-pollution
8-sportfishing

when i find a pond with lots of small panfish i will keep my limit and eat them.
what i do for these dinks is skin / clean then cut into one inch cubes if i need to
then drop in a pan of boiling water with a tablespoon of old bay seasoning -change
the amount to your taste, with a kosher salt-table salt will change taste.when fish
are cooked drop into ice cubes and water then the fish fall off the bones
after all the fish is off the bones dip in to red cocktail sauce[ i like heluva good sauce]
