Basin Lake Crappie Trolling
« on: Apr 23, 2009, 04:39 PM »
90% of my lake is 30 feet deep or better.  There are some big slaps every now and again in the weedlines around 10-15 ft.  Does anyone ever troll these deep lakes for crappie in May?  Any suggestions at finding them suspending in open water?

I troll for them all the time. I use the electric and troll walleye style....zig-zag. I'm generally in 12 fow or less. I use slip bobbers, bucktails and minnows ( and some Berkley Alive).

It's very effective.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

I know this is an old thread but I thought that I would add my way of trolling. I troll at .4mph with 3 ways for crappie all the time. Use a 3/16 oz weight and a 2-3 ft leader to a #4 floating jig head with a minnow. Works real well in the dead of the summer when the crappies are out in 15fow.

Also troll with a road runner at various depths.. beware though... you might catch a lot of fish, not limited to crappie either :)
