Jump start boxes
« on: Sep 03, 2021, 11:50 AM »
Had a no wake put on a local lake and spent a day with the radio on, electronics running and live well pump going. Trolled with my electric until it was slowing down too. Go to start the big motor to idle the last half mile and nothing but click, 5 dead batteries. Had just enough on the trolling motor to get to the launch but man I was glad I was on the way to the dock.
Any of you have anything good to say about any of the jumper boxes on the market? Tacklife?

I haven't had any experience with jump boxes. I would recommend a priority start device. One less thing to haul around and one less battery to go bad.

Small roll-up solar panel.  Keep it on your main motor battery.  Worst case, attach it while you row back.  You do have the required paddle - correct?   8)

Also check your outboards alternator and rectifier.  Sounds like you may not be getting a charge.

I got USCG safety checked and state safety checked.  No paddle.  Got my sticker anyways.  Not sure they ask for those anymore.  Always seemed silly.

Yea, they were required in boats less than 18’ I believe.
I was just busting your chops.

Try the roll up solar panel though.

I got a jump box from harbor freight that was cheap and works great, has a light and a USB port.

Hahaha paddle 21’ glass boat. I’d need heart jumper. Getting charge as per computer but was just a DA trolling with electric and not running the big motor for 8 hours while stuff was drawing the 2 back batteries down.
Charged both batteries back up and fished all day Saturday w no issue.

I have two of them. One is large and has a built in compressor. I used it to start my brother's Merc Verado and it worked well. I also have a small one that I keep in my sxs. I have never used it, but a friend has the same one and started three pickup trucks with it one day in winter before he gave it a charge. It's a bit bigger than a cell phone.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Do I need a paddle in my 1650 Rebel? Never carried one on this boat... I do have a dinky little one I could throw on but space is a premium.
