« on: Mar 03, 2009, 09:34 PM »
Well another Spring is upon us and the Steelhead Fishing is going to get Hot and heavy soon! Some of you may have fished all winter and some of you are just making it up now for the first time this year. Either way it's been another great season so far. Share some of your most recent trips with the rest of us!  THANKS! I'll try to give you updated water and fishing reports as often as I can! New to a computer, but not to fishing for Salmon and Steelies ( 29 years on the tribs)!  Now that it is September, it's time for some Monster rod breaking KINGS, Reel stripping COHO'S, beautiful BROWNS, and of Course lightning fast Jumping STEELIES again!  HOPE EVERYONE HAS A SPECTACULAR SEASON!

Right now there doing real well on maribu jiggs, beads, and pink worms wacky style under a float up here in Altmar. Heard good reports of fresh chromers getting hooked on spawn sacs and the bead rigs under floats down in the lower end of the river. Your going to miss out on what could be our best spring in years after this long winter.  My handle is just an old nickname! ;D ;D

Really Nice Fish, where's your head, your buddies take pictures like mine. Atleast now we have digital cam's and you can correct them. The best colors just before this cold snap was black maribu with metalic pink head. Also your jig question 2 for $3 sounds about right! Last week if you had a bunch of the right color you could have named your price on the river banks!

We bought silver plated jig heads at All Seasons Sports in pulaski and used a pink permanent marker.

and white when the water is stained with a strand or two of black in it

No never tried waxies, about the price I meant the salmon river. My buddy was wacking them and all the bead and spawn guys wanted one of them that day. Chartreuse is a good egg sac color on certain days.

i agree it seems like chartreuse egg sacs work extremely well at burt and all the erie tribs but thats about the extent of chartreuse. i like using white and pink sacs filled with delicious brownie eggs

Been ice fishing 2-3 days a week at oneida, I hear the river just got good again up in altmar. Some of them new fish have showed up finally! The boats did real good bottom bouncing the schoolhouse yesterday.

u can fish for steelies just about anyway just make sure you have a longer rod.

them short rods dont seem to work as well for me when fighting the fish.

i have a 12 foot light action steelhead adv. rod from Gander and i love it!

i usually use 6 pound vanish for 4 pound 100% berkley flouro.

can use mono unless you use a leader.

my fav. is jigs!

and Snagger thanks for the permanent marker tip i tied up some with hot pink jig head.

im going hopefully Sunday down to burt.

ill let ya know how i do!
