I went down with two friends last year for 6 days of fishing. The trip was a blast, I recommend it to everyone. I'm going agian in Feb 2006 with alot more information, so we should kick some ass. The freshwater fishing is pretty fun...you have no idea what you're gonna get. The invasive speces: Mayan cichlid, oscar, jaguar cichlid, midas cichlid, spotted tilapia, PEACOCK BASS(introduced)

Sweet fish man! Welcome to My Fish Finder, too! I've read about the peacocks in the canals down there... actually saw a show where they were catching them. I think they were Butterfly Peacocks, but not sure... So you guys went down there for 6 days, JUST to fish the canals? Seriously, I could see myself doing that...
How aggressive are the peacocks?

Sweet pics! They sure are cool looking. I would love to chase the peacocks, especially those big dogs down in South America where they reach the 25 or 30 pound mark. Good luck this February! Tight lines.

Wow, I never knew Florida had so many introduces fresh water fish species. Were they stocked on purpose or were they accidentally introduced? What ever the case they look like they would be a blast to catch and very colorful to. All the cichlids look like someone painted some crappies. I have see some fishing shows on the peacock bass, man, they are awesome fighters too. Give them a few years there, if they have a good food supply they will probably get close to the South American peacock bass size.

Most are aquarist cast off's that established themselves over time.
The only cichlid introduced on purpose was the peacock bass, back in 1984. The BIG pbass are Cichla temensis and those did not establish due to the water temps. I doubt they will even reach double digits in weight....but i'd be more than happy with a 6 # pbass!
