This is a long shot but any outboard mechanics on here? I have to replace a rectifier on an 80s mariner. The rectifier is mercury brand with the pigtails. My issue is, there is a red (12v) black (ground) and 2 green wires. The green wires aren't marked with a different color. Does it matter which way the green wires go?

Wish I knew the answer. I replaced the rectifirer on my 2004 johnson, just had to plug the new one in.

The green (or yellow) wires both go to the stator.
See the attached schematic.
I looked at a few others too.
It doesn't appear it matters which green wire goes where - they both go to the stator.

Thanks guys, I knew they went to the stator (called a lighting coil on this model) just wasn't sure if polarity mattered. I didn't think so because it's just a wound coil but you never know.

Good luck with your repair. I remember when mine went. Going back to the launch and volts were 19!

It's all good now. Charging at 13.6 volts. Took it out last night and bashed the prop off some rocks. It's always something.

Well that stinks!

Sorry to hear that. My proline is sitting on the trailer at the marina. Busted up lower/prop...new one is back ordered. May be no salt this year.
