It's the muleys that need thinned out around here. But a nice whitey wouldn't be to bad either.

The price for a non-resident deer is $326. Hopefully they'll keep the season the same as this year. Oct.1- Oct. 31

Yep. Those suckers go pretty fast out there. Like shooting fish in a barrell.

Some of the threads tend to get a bit off topic sometimes here on the Wyoming site. This will be a place where we can talk about something other than fishing if we like (or fishing ). Feel free to discuss anything as long as it's clean. We all know the rules pretty well. I'll start it off with some posts from LT's prayer request thread that got just a bit off topic.

Dude I thought I was going crazy. I let my phone die so I plugged it in for a while to charge. When I got back on I couldn't find my reply on the LT thread. Here it is lol. Sorry though. Didn't mean to further derail the topic : (
Can't wait for the ice and I notice some of us have already started to migrate.  We may have to have an early outing for LT where we bundle him up and drag him out with our sled : ) LT just needs to be well enough to hold a rod. We can do the rest.

Yes he was awesome lookin...nearly killed me and my dad as he was only about 6 1/2 miles from the truck...probably only 3 miles as the crow flies but up and down 3 steep long ridges. Started the pack out at 945 the next morning...got back to the truck at 6:45...it was brutal.

I'm a bird huntin' fool now...went sage grouse hunting yesterday and the day before. Went duck/goose hunting today and got into some more bonus grouse. Limited out on grouse 3 days in a row as well as also getting 3 ducks today as well as a goose. Got my puppy his first retrieve today as well! Glad he broke through!

Used them in 2009 and 2010. Had pretty good results until I hit a bull what I thought was high lung. 99% sure as everything was slow motion. Only hit about 4" higher then I wanted to hit. did the happy dance and everything. Would've been by far my biggest bull ever. He ran, and ran, and ran, and ran, and ran. I would lose blood then pick it back up, then lose it then pick it back up. Pretty soon it got less and less. Last spot I found was where he must have finally stopped for a second. Found a pool about as big as a softball. Tracks went down a ridge covered in buck brush. Lost tracks and blood completely. Heartbreaking. No way to know if it was the broad head but it becomes about confidence and I no longer had confidence in that head. Since that day i changed my set up completely to different arrows (heavier) and Shuttle T-Lock heads. Everything i shot last year died within site. 3 antelope and an elk.

Hey Hump I shot a few antelope with them I really didnt care for there cutting ability seemed to punch thru and not do alot of damage. I am trying the rage 125 gr this year from what I have seen on tv and the other videos they are some bad mamo jamas  :thumbup_smilie: I use 400 gr arrows too since my bow isnt real fast it drives an arrow in deep usually pass thru.

The Boulder Big Draw Shoot will be held again this year, It is in June (I think) and benefits the State 4-H program  I will post more when I know more. Its a 40 target 3-D shoot and Wind River Archers will have their Motion Target System set up as well, a BBQ and Novelty Shoot will also be included. This is a fantastic shoot and I urge all to attend. If you have never shot a Motion System, now's your chance. 5 arrows, shot at 7 pop up targets and one running target, at various ranges, speeds and combinations. Bring xtra arrows.... Bring your boat, boulder lake is only a few miles away, make it a weekend! Wind River Archers will also have a shoot in July, again I'll find out and get it posted.

Another Griz above Lander............

GRIZZLY BEAR SIGHTED NEAR LANDER

LANDER—Officials with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department were recently notified of a grizzly bear sighting in an area northwest of Lander.
Game and Fish Large Carnivore Conflict Coordinator Brian DeBolt said a black bear hunter made the discovery when he reviewed the photographs on his trail camera.
“In late May a black bear hunter looked through his trail camera photos and saw a bear he was sure was a grizzly,” DeBolt said. “The hunter brought the trail camera photographs to the Lander Region Game and Fish Office where it was determined that the bear in the photographs is a grizzly bear.”
DeBolt said this is not the first time a grizzly bear has appeared on a hunter’s trail camera.
“Last year there a grizzly bear was documented on another black bear hunter’s bait site in Sinks Canyon, west of Lander,” DeBolt said. “We have also documented grizzly bears even further to the south, so we know they are in the county and we want backcountry users to be bear aware.”
With the snow melting from the high country, roads and campgrounds are beginning to open and many people are heading to the forest to enjoy recreating in the great outdoors. DeBolt reminds everyone when recreating, visiting, or living in bear country to be aware that they could encounter a bear at any time.
“The most important action when camping or recreating in bear country is keeping all food and attractants unavailable to bears,” DeBolt said. “Attractants to a bear could be things like pop, canned goods, toothpaste, garbage, or dog food. Do not leave any food or attractants outside of our camper, tent, or vehicles. This results in an easy food reward for bears and they will return to get more and this spells trouble. If you are going to recreate in bear country, be bear aware. If you see any bear or unusual bear activities report it immediately.”
“Most of bear safety is plain commonsense,” DeBolt said. “Be alert and watch for evidence of bear activity such as tracks, scat, and diggings and use caution while working or recreating in these areas, especially in and around riparian zones along creeks and rivers. Hikers, fisherman, antler hunters, or anyone else recreating in areas that could be occupied by bears should take precautions and carry a deterrent such as commercially available bear spray.”
DeBolt said anyone camping in bear country is urged to follow these rules:
Chose a campsite free of fresh bear signs; scat, diggings or tracks.
Keep a clean camp. Food and odors attract bears.
Store food, garbage and other bear attractants well away (100 yards) from your sleeping area.
Cook well away (100 yards) from sleeping area. Do not sleep in the clothes that you wore while cooking or handling fish or game.
Remove/pack everything out of the camp site. Don’t burn or bury garbage. Bears will dig it up.
Coolers, backpacks, wooden boxes and tents are not bear resistant. Do not leave food or other bear attractants in open vehicles at trailheads, campgrounds or along forest roads.
Bear resistant storage containers are a good method for storing food and other attractants. They can be purchased at many outdoor shops or in some cases may be rented at outdoor shops and US Forest Service offices.
Use bear-resistant trash receptacles and food storage lockers provided in campgrounds.
Clean barbecue grills and store them so they are unavailable to bears.
If possible, leave pets at home. If you do take your pet into bear country keep it under control at all times.
If you have a bear encounter report that encounter immediately to your local game and fish personnel or local US Forest Service office.
There are many brochures about living and recreating in bear country. Brochures are available at any Game and Fish region office, US Forest Service offices, and at the Game and Fish website http://wgfd.wyo.gov/ To report a bear sighting in the Lander Region contact the regional office at 1-800-654-7862 (in state) or 1-307-332-2688.

I'd like to know a little more than just "SW of Lander" but overall not that surprising to me. I'm kinda surprised it took as long as it did for the first conclusive siting. On the bright side, at least nobody should be caught off guard if a dangerous encounter occurs in the area.

I honestly think hunting and fishing licenses, permits, and registrations should be raised, like doubled. Compared to the amount of money a person spends on gas and gear, a $40 fishing license is nothing. The guys that will quit fishing from a price raise are the guys that are just anti-game and fish know-it-alls, which honestly are the guys that cause conservation problems anyways.

The out of state friend who sent me this despises the fact he has to hire a guide to hunt wilderness and thinks more tags would be sold if it wasn't the case. This could be good, or bad considering it could lead to more people in your favorite wilderness hunting spot. I think they should crack down on the law breakers harder and be able to auction off weapons, ATV's, vehicles etc used in game violations, with all proceeds going to the G&F ;D

I would also be willing to pay more for some tags, especially limited quota tags. I say "some" tags because I'd have a hard time paying double to hunt some of the general areas I do, especially if I'm spending the majority of the season concentrating on a limited quota tag for another species somewhere else. For example, right now if I draw a limited quota tag in a good area for say antelope or deer (doesn't happen often  ;D), I will usually spend the majority of my season hunting that tag, but will usually buy a general elk also, just to have. If that general elk cost twice as much I might pass on it all together if I already have a better tag for another species somewhere else. Maybe a solution would be higher prices on the limited quota tags only, while leaving the generals the same... I don't know, just throwing it out there. Some hard decisions may have to be made in the near future.

Don't quote me on it, but I think fines dealed out go into the same funds as an other type of ticket, not back into the game and fish. Wardens can only enforce the two game and fish sections of the Wyoming constitution, but sheriffs and such can enforce everything. Changing that would probably help quite a bit if thats the case.

Tax truck drivers on I-80.  Make it a toll.  Make 5-10% of the proceeds go to WY G/F.

Rest goes wherever, maybe to fix the roads I've read in the past they are considering this to fund road repairs.

All citations in Wyoming go to the School Distric of the area. The only ones that keep fines are municipalities.

If the fishing license price were doubled, you would see a substantial dip in sales.  I know a guy (hm-m-m-m) whose wife fishes with him a couple times each summer.  They're both retired.  Money is an object.  If prices were doubled:
1)  Do you think she would continue to fish with him?
2)  Do you think he would continue to buy her license for one or two trips, if she did want to continue fishing with him?

If Game & Fish wants to eliminate crowding on public waters, best way would be to multiply price of permits.  Don't know how that would affect total monies, but you might be surprised.

And we need to be very careful of generalizations (lumping all in with a few). . .generalizations don't add a lot of credibility to our posts.  Don't assume that the less vocal have the same agendas as the noisy ones.

Simple economics. The higher the taxes = less money being spent = less tax revenue....Lower taxes = more money spent = more tax revenue.

I bought one of those big round bale blinds for Whitetail hunting last year. First night out I had a fawn come up and nibble on the corner while two nice bucks were just feeding out of their bedding area. Was hard not to laugh or tap him on the nose. Arrowed the biggest buck at 32 yards 10 minutes later. Those blinds work! When I was putting it out the hired man was turning on the pivot just as I was moving it across the field. He came down and we had a good laugh as he told me about how he was up on the hill trying to figure out how he missed picking up a bale and about that time he said it started moving and had two legs.
Maybe we need Sub Topics under this thread.

Well the odds showed that it would take about 19 to get most Bull or an any moose tag and me with 7 points and in my 60s I decided to try for the cow.  Lets say that I got 1 with 22 points, that is 15 more years X $7 = $105 + cost od tag in that time??? lets say $150, so that tag would have been over $250. Well worth the money but I can enjoy the trip with family more now.

I decided I had not been fishing near enough this summer.  I loaded up the boat and planned on a 3 day trip to Buffalo Bill.  The first thing as I left the dock, I noticed that something did not feel right.  I went to full throttle and it jumped out of gear.  I could not even get up on plane.  Stuck close to ramp but fishing was not good.  I got home and started pulling the lower unit apart.  I found the trouble soon enough.  BUT I also noticed that the drive shaft on my 115 HP Merc had a thin crack in it.  This was not something I wanted to be out on the water with when it gave out.  Guess what a new goes for $600.00 give or take.  I was lucky enough to find a used one online for $150.00.  Now all I have to do is wait and see if it is as good as he said it was.  Oh well September fishing is always better on BB anyway.   ???   :'(   >:(

sterndrive engineering has complete lower units 100% new with warrentees for a good price if they have one for your motor.

for a complete I/O alpha drive they are like $1500.00 with a 3 year no question warrentee, a outboard would be alot less.
