I know I'm replying to an old post, but....

Blade baits DO WORK WELL any season for walleyes.
I use them jigging in the winter, too.
Use a snap to attach to your line and your good to go.

Another lure that works about as well as a blade bait is a lip less crank bait.
they are shaped like a blade bait and have the same action and rattle to boot.
Bill Lewis' rattle trap is an example.
