Title: Worm Harness Storage
Post by: Mac Attack on Sep 04, 2016, 07:06 PM
Did the noodle thing.  OK, but they just don't cut it.

Looked at the Amish Outfitters storage system.

Here is the Mega unit -

Here is the one I'm thinking about -

https://amishoutfitters.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19&products_id=99&zenid=dd3ae0d77d053aa63dd136ecb5336cb4 (https://amishoutfitters.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19&products_id=99&zenid=dd3ae0d77d053aa63dd136ecb5336cb4)

Has anyone out there used either of these?  anything good or bad to report?

Anyone try the Harness Tender from Janns Netcraft -

http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/leader-storage/751200.aspx (http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/leader-storage/751200.aspx)

Anybody have anything else that is unique they are using that works well?

I'm tired of tangles and the mess.
Really tired.

Thanks.

I've said it before............reading your posts makes my head hurt Boon.
 :D

It's all good though.
You are always trying to help others and that's all that matters.

Anyway..........

I've seen the harness box with those plastic "H" things.
Many places sell them
I've used things similar to them.
The problem with these is that they aren't flexible to keep the harness tight when you wrap it onto it.
If the hook falls between holes, the harness is loose.
Styrofoam noodles are soft and allow you to wrap them tightly and then stuff the hook into the foam.
Then the Styrofoam "springs" back into shape and keeps the harness tight.
The problem then is the noodles tangle with other noodles and items in your storage compartments on your boat.
Saturday was the worst.
I actually had to cut a hook to get one untangled.
The Harness Tenders from Janns Netcraft are offered from Big Pappa, but are $8.50, where Netcraft sells them for $7.99 each

The tubes handle 8 harnesses for $8 (24 harnesses would then run $24)
The box from Amish Outfitters handles 24 harnesses for only $17.

It's not the money.
It's the storage room required.
The tubes are round and the Amish units are rectangular.
Rectangular wins over round in the storage department every time.

But I'm unsure how the Amish units work.
They use a Styrofoam insert, so...............

I was looking for anything new and also maybe someone out there that may have tried the Amish units.

Thanks Boon.

You can make the Amish outfitter harness tender for less them 17.. a box for $5 to $7.95  a section of foam maybe $3 to $5 dollars at Joanna or even Michels  and some push pins dollar store .. lol's

they wrap like a pool noodles but you use push pins to keep it all tight... which kinda sucks cause the pins are short and fall out all the time.. on the ones I had that were like Amish outfitters..

hence attaching hook to loop for a endless wind up but harness section is a pain can't get the one you want quick enough.. also what about pool noodles and pvc pipe??  Like you said retangle is better so so will skip that..

I would suggest you make them but don't use push pins like they sell with it...there like thumb tacks as in short... i would use like a pin used for sewning with a big round bulb on the end since it bigger then and longer then a push pin. Might hold better in foam and not pull out or fall out??

These are longer -

And like I said, it's not the cost.
I won't make something I can buy for only a little bit more.
Also, in many cases, the ones you buy are better than what you make.
Not always, but in many cases.

I don't want to reinvent the wheel here.

Hit the dollar store and get some pool noodles for a buck each.. there 4 foot long and are cylindrical foam if you got a mount for paper towels rolls.. we made one that looks like a paper towel roll  holder we put a metal bar in center of pool noodle and hang it on the paper towel roll holder..

Size Mayers were the like button for your post!!

I even seen paper towel roll holders made form long eye bolts.. they capped a piece of threaded rod with locking nylock nuts jammed together at one end and a hole drill at other end of threaded rod for a pin Like a cotter pin or a hair pin etc.. slide the thread rod threw the eyes of the eye bolts after there monuted.. then take and put the pin in then just pull off what's wanted or needed..one after the other..

thats for when fishing leaders for steel head with like a corky rig and yarn hang set up..  pull it off really quick don't even matter if you connect them loop de loop.. but for crawler harness a pool noodle and a gallon bag would be perfect..
