Come on this site is do for an epic salmon vs brown debate. I’m still sticking with the brown. Everyone knows there’s no salmon left in that lake....

what where the measurements on that brookie taxid? It almost looks taller than it is long, but the girth has to be close if not more?

If you look closely on the measuring board you can see it's 20 inches. My biggest length wise that year was 24 inches on the board, but was more normal looking in the 5 lb. range. That's good growth for a 3 year old fish.

I wish I could keep them for at least another year to produce even bigger brook trout, but fast growing brook trout have shorter life spans than the browns and rainbows. I tried one year with a few but they disappeared. If I could feed them one more year I could have 8 pound brook trout! I may try one more time.

The interesting thing I have learned about fish is the faster they grow typically the shorter their lifespans, but as I said brook trout are already not long lived.  A good analogy would be a fish being a candle that only has so much wax to burn. The faster it burns the faster it will burn out. The slower it burns the slower it will burn out.

This is why out warm and cool water fish that grow faster in the south due to a longer growing season don't live as long as their northern counterparts.
