Wow RG, those broken down reels bring back memories. We closed the reel shop 12 years ago, but that is exactly how we used to do it. We used cafeteria trays and had racks to hold them while they were in process, either waiting for parts or consent to proceed from their owners. Those were a good reel.  Keep a few pinion gears, line guide pawls, and maybe an anti-reverse pawl or two on hand and you'll be good forever. Should Abu discontinue them, the drag washers can always be made from other models.
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.

Yeah, the cookie trays work great. 4 for $3 at Wally World ;D The shelf liner keeps stuff from sliding around on the tray. The little glass tea candle cups are perfect for holding groups of parts. I also use them for soaking, mixing epoxy etc. Tubes of 6 are $4 at CVS. Very handy on the bench.

People tend to buy junk reels. Throw-aways are made from parts made for the assembly order. There are no parts left at the end of the run. The better reels are made to last and parts are generally available for many years to come. There may only be a couple of parts for this reel that are obsolete even now, 30 years later.

That's a good reel!

I finished one yesterday. But for some cosmetic wear, it's smooth as silk.  2 to go.....1 is stripped and cleaned, the other is one I bought listed for parts only for $9. It 's waiting for a line guide assembly. I need to take some pics of that one before I clean it. Oye!

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

OK , it not something most of us have. As a matter a fact I only know one other person who does and he thinks I'm  a nut for putting it in flys. When sunlight hits it it glows in the base color it's attached to.... burgandy floss.

POLAR BEAR !!!!!      not easy to come by, but well worth it IMHO

I decided that I might as well start using my lunch breaks at work as tying time!! 15 minutes to eat and 45 to tie...
So for today's break I decided it would be a Steelhead jig tie day..

Pic isn't the greatest but here it is....

Tight lines..
