I don't, but I know a lot of guys do.  I do have some colors that chip easier than others.  I just made up three dozen heads last night.  They should be ready to paint this week.  I'll give it a shot and let you know what I find out.

This may be a bit long, but it's here to welcome a new fly tier to the addiction :w00t:

Onelastcast, this one's for you!

RG's Bead Head Wooly Bugger

What you need;

Hook; any size you like, straight shank. I tie #14 < #4
Thread ( I forgot the thread) 140 to 210 denier or 6/0 Uni
Chenille your choice of color
Rooster hackle, again your choice of color
Marabou Still your choice
Bead or cone head (I use both)
Hackle Pliers
Whip Finisher
Scissors
Get the bead on the hook. (Don't forget to crimp the barb for release) You may need to carefully widen the gap of the hook to get the bead on smaller hooks.

Build a thread dam behind the bead to help hold it in place

Move the thread to the bend of the hook

Choose a clump of marabou and measure it to about the length of the shank.

Tie in the marabou

Trim the excess and tie in a length of chenille

Again, trim the excess and tie in a rooster hackle by the tip

Wrap the chenille forward and tie it off with a couple of tight wraps of thread

Attach the hackle pliers to the butt of the hackle, palmer it forward and tie it off.

Pull the hackle back and wrap a smooth section behind the eye

The next step is my own. It's not necessary, but I like the way it looks.
Apply some natural hair dubbing to the thread

Wrap a neat collar

Whip finish

Whew!
Rg's Bead Head Wooly Bugger.

Man, I wouldn't have the paitence to do that, my patience is used up by 2:30 every day.  ;)  Cool picts though. I admire people who can do that.   I think I'll break my Orvis rod out and start using it again. Haven't touched it in years.

Just when you think you've got them trained, they go and deflate your ego for you. Nice catch...both of you. Nothing like enjoying life.

It's therapy Mike! By the time I  make my drive home I'm ready to mount a 50 cal to the roof and clear a path. 3 flies later and I can't remember any of it.

Catching fish on them is the bonus ;D

Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish.

otis you do nice work thanks for sharing tips
i use powder paint also just notice the paint chips easy when i fish near rock piles
i see people say to bake them in the oven at 350 for about 40 minutes and it toughen up just wondering if you tryed this

I dont bake/cure my powder painted jigs but I do re-heat them to toughen em up.
I do them one at a time over a candle. I typically do a dozen of a color at a time. After a dozen I go back over them and chip out the paint from the eye. Then I put them back over the candle for about same amount of time they were originally heated for. Quicker than the oven and works about as well...

Heres some of my favorite head styles...

Heres an "otis" poured head I turned into a perch...

Nice Bugger RG! I really need to tie some emergers but im haveing some motivation issues...  8)

Otis - I see you were duplicating some jigs there.  ;D
