lots of problems with minnkota leaking.  I had 2 that leaked within the season.  many others have had same problem.  not many choices out there though.

What do you mean leaking? The mineral oil in the drive motor? I've heard of a lot of problems in my year long pre-purchase research but that's the first I've heard of that.

I've had one that has leaked for 4 years no issues.  My current terrova leaks as well.  No harm no foul.

Mass board.  Baitbucket tore his down and realized water was getting into the motor.

Ah yes, I did see that. For what these things cost we shouldn't have to deal with that kind of garbage.

Mine's not leaking at all.

But then I haven't had time to even install it on the boat!

I've had 4 Minnkotas since 1992. All have performed flawlessly.  I had a Powerdrive 12v 55lb that I installed a "kit" that gave it autopilot and spot lock including the remote. It was like $400 10 years ago. Don't know if they still sell the kit?

They do.  My friend added it to one a couple years back.  I watched the link.  Guy has a sweet jet boat.

Then you can't say "mine" if you don't have it yet.  :rotflol:

lmao

I found out mine were leaking after it started to short out and jerk back n forth and cable was getting hot.  the chance of me getting 2 lemons in 3 years is slim if there is no issue.  then to have certified shop honor warranty and it failed again in 3 months of use.  im thinking of putting some kind of sealer on the outside so it don't happen again.  if its not already wet in there.

I been a minnkota man since like 82 but im leery now as you'd expect.

Just a question: You didn't buy it at Walmart did you? It would't be the first time the same model at Walmart was not up to par. Also my brother that worked at a Walmart said returns went back on the shelf regardless of the reason it was returned.

Hopefully they got the bugs worked out on why some leaked.
