Pollack, Mackerel = Stripers
« on: Jul 08, 2018, 03:59 PM »
I fished the coast the last 3 early mornings. I have been able to jig pollack and the last 2 mornings a few mackerel. Not long after I put a live one out the Stripers been hammering them. It is good to see the bigger fish showing up. Friday I caught 4 , kept a 30” only to follow up with a fatter 32” which is still swimming. Today went out again got a few more including a 29” that I released because I knew something else would show up. As the tide was switching it took me a while but I got 2 more mac’s in the bucket. The schoolies killed one so I put my last one out. 5 mins later my balloon when under and the drag was screaming. I set the hook and fought a beautiful 34” and landed it. The day before I lost one to a lobster bouy. The lobsterman pulled that one. 😎
I hate to go back to work and look forward to next time !

I have the fever! Made it to the coast to see the sunrise. Fished 2 hours before work. Landed a fat 26” then had another up on the rocks but when the wave receded my line snapped off at the swivel.

Jon, That Striper is huge! Nothing landed yet over 3 ft but still a good tug!

You are on them pretty good.  Only a matter of time!  That fish was from the cape.  Sadly I broke off on one larger...
