Outer Banks fishing
« on: Jun 24, 2007, 08:32 PM »
Hello All,
I am planning a vacation for this summer and one of my stops is going to be in the Outer Banks(camping at various campsites throughout).  Can anyone help me out with good places to go surf fishing and equipment needed.  Thanks

Anywhere along Hatteras Island is excellent for surf fishing. I have been vacationing there for 16 years. I usually squid, sand crabs, ect. and do well just before sunrise

Thanks Nyr114, do I have to have a surf rod or can a freshwater rod handle it (Have never surf fished)? Also, I forgot to mention I am going in early August.  What is usually biting that time of the year?

you will definately need a surf rod. In late july and early august I catch alot of mullet, spot and sea trout. try using a number 4 hook and some 25 or 30 lb test. Sand fleas, squid, and bloodworms tend to work the best.
