98 Johnson 50 hp repair or replace?
« on: Apr 08, 2014, 10:31 AM »
I have a 50 hp 3cyl Johnson, The bottom end has been replaced, the brain [ or computer ] was replaced 2 years ago and now it runs good at idle but not under power.      The mechanic says its a bad rod bering ..
So should I sell it cheap or fix it ?   I can't decide...   Any ideas on repair costs or opinions?     How much is it worth with controls?

Well that's kind of what I was thinking but I was hoping to get an estimated repair figure from some one ...
Thanks Steelie , maybe I'll put it on Craigs list.

Like posted before. Probably a couple of hundred. I had same issue. I had 1990 evinrude 50hp. Ran good, but getting tired, Starting to loose power. I decided to get a new 60hp merc. Bigfoot. Before I had to put any money into it. Traded it in towards a new cover for boat. Dealer was going to use it for parts.

Giving it away to a good friend, I think that was the best Idea....
