I just threw a brand new one out today.
Actually it was the rubber net material.  No metal.
I have used them and find that hooks get caught in them far less than a rope/nylon net.
But the net I use trolling on Erie is large.
So this replacement rubber net only ended up way too heavy.
A lot of money in the dumpster.

I understand they are easier on the fish too if you’re doing any C&R.  Reportedly, they rub far less slime off the fish than a rope net.

I use one for my trout harvests where I either want to release them for further growth or harvest them without damaging the fins. The only downsides is they are heavier, and the one I have, the bolts are coming loose as it doesn't seem to be made as well made as it could be. And yeah less hook ups in the net.

I own 2 , large one from cabelas extendable Handle and a ego 2  floating with extendable handle
The cabelas net is heavy I’ve had it now 12 years
Ego 2 isn’t cheap but a nice net , light and floats , it’s 3-4 years old  , I’ll never own anything but rubber , easier to get hooks out , and much kinder to the released fish

I’ve had mine for almost 15 years. It’s telescopic and has held up great. I was tired of hooks snagging the netting. One of the best purchases I’ve made.

rubber looked the same litter stiffer and just a touch easier to get the hooks out than the softer rubber ,

No problem. The netting doesn’t seem too soft but to be honest I haven’t looked at the newer models. It’s not light and you definitely get more drag while netting fish trolling. But like you said I would never go back to nylon.

Just got my first one for trout fishing the reservoirs so I don't have to deal with egg sinker going through holes and taking to long to untangle
