Where would you fish?
« on: Aug 22, 2019, 08:37 AM »
Soliciting opinions on possible venues for Oct 12-14th.  Will be fishing with a buddy of mine.  We've fished Champlain a ton for pike and would usually head up there but its old hat at this point.

We have gear for trolling and casting.

Where would you go?

I'm biased towards my home lake of Cayuga. Trout, Bass, Pike, Panfish. Can troll or work shorelines casing. Lots of great little towns with restaurants and places to stay from hotels to camp grounds.

I would recommend either ontario for kings or chautauqua lake for fall eyes and muskies...  you could always hit Erie if weather allowed for eyes as well

Cranberry Lake has some monster pike and great smallmouth action. Although I don't think smallies are what you're looking for

Doesn't have to specifically be a pike trip.  I like the idea of chasing musky.  Large water is fine we just have had several years of catching tons of pike on champlain.

Thinking St Lawrence, or maybe Oneida...

Chautaqua for musky/walleye, short haul to Erie if the weather allows.  Waneta Lake for musky, can jump over the hill to Keuka to fish lake trout.  Conesus Lake for pike and tiger musky, 45 minutes from Lake Ontario salmon.  October is beautiful thing around here.
Bigger isn't always better but Size definitely Matters!

Thanks for the input everyone.  Happy to hear any other suggestions.  I do like the idea of chasing musky one day and jigging lakers the next.
