Wayne County rescinds state of emergency for boaters on bays
Published: 08/28/2019 @ 01:06 pm

A State of Emergency on certain bays in Wayne County has been lifted by the Wayne County Board of Supervisors.

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts announced Wednesday morning that the no wake policy is no longer in effect for Sodus Bay, East Bay, Port Bay and Blind Sodus Bay in Wayne County.

However, Virts did say boaters should maintain a no wake zone of 500 feet. It is not mandatory, but an advisory.

Submerged docks and potential shoreline erosion are concerns for Sodus, Huron and Wolcott.

“Boaters are urged to stay as far away from the shorelines as possible to reduce damage caused by their boat’s wake during this time,” Virts said.
