Once again, flies work great.  ;D

When I was a kid, (1000 years ago) my Brother and I used to get them with a cane pole, and a small hook with something red on it. I've used flies many times over the years, but I like a pellet rifle best.

We had a cattle field near our cottage on Lake O. that had a stream running through it. We'd get the perfect branches off one of the cherry trees in the orchard behind us and just club them . The trick was avoiding the Black Angus bull in that field. He was a scary beast.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Been there, done that ! :o :o   Up in Dexter, a farmer we knew let us hunt rabbits on his property.  Nice creekbed ran through the center of the hay fields.    Many times while stomping the brush along the edges, you'd get a feeling that something was watching you  ???
Turn around and a big bull (hornless luckily) with snot running down his nose was staring you down from 50 yards away.  Played the "Hide behind the hay roll" game a few times years ago !
The ponds on his property were loaded with huge frogs but they were off limits ! :-\

Plastics are Fantastic !

you know rg i was thinkin about a pellet gun but they get pricey
they got some nice ones but i think 2 to 300 why not get a 22 that shoots shorts and longs
when i was younger i would shoot them by the hundreds with a 22
never lost to much ... was wondering if the fishing technique wouldnt scare the ones close by
and you could get more faster really

good to hear you NYers can still shoot frogs with a gun.

Pa outlawed the practice a few years ago - now it is bow & arrow only.

I have an older pellet pistol that I like to use. Shoots really fast (I changed out the little spring with a HEAVY DUTY spring). I've taken out squirrels, rabbits and woodchucks with it. As far as catching them.....ANYTHING bounced on their nose with get a bite. We used to use rooster tails, bare hooks, and anything else in the trout box to catch the ones in my beaver pond. Frogs are dumb. It doesn't take a whole lot of finesse.  :D

Year ago I use to get them out to 3 Rivers area in B'ville but all the spots dried up after the beavers moved on. I always used a .22 LR. A few years ago i did try red yarn on a fly rod and it did work but I could have got many more if i had the 22 instead.

I've been looking at this pellet gun.
