DIY Kayak trolling motor mount
« on: Nov 19, 2020, 01:59 PM »
Well, being as weather in Northeast Wyoming wont make up its mind a start creating ice...... I found a good idea on youtube and figured I would try it out to see how well it actually worked. I made the mount out of  2 pieces of 3/4" oak sheeting and some 3/4" pvc. no movement from the mount what so ever, even at higher speed the mount held on great by extending pvc into the scup holes. 1st trip I made out I used a full size 100ah marine battery and used it for 4 hours with no loss of power trolling and mobilizing around in 12mph wind and only used about 15% of battery life. 2nd time out I used a Mighty Max 35ah battery because the footprint and weight is alot less, but I only got 2.5 hours of battery use out of it before i found myself paddling back to shore. all in all very pleased with the outcome and will be using alot until we can get some dang hardwater around here.
