Hit the water around 6:30am. Tried shallow on the west shore first, temps in the 37-39 range with no luck. We turned back south and decided to stay on the south end of the lake. Found the warmest temps there at 39-42. It was a popular place, with a lot of boats down there to start off the morning. Within an hour everyone left but a couple boats and the bite started for us around 8am. Couldn't get a bite on a stickbait so we fished all spoons and snapwieghts off inline boards and riggers all day. The first fish that came to the net was a 28 1/2" 8lb Salmon! Great way to start the day! Then the browns started to bite and we managed to fill our box. We got 3rd place with a 22lb+ box and the lunker with a 8lb LL.
I am a new member to the FLTA and I met a lot of nice people at the tourney and hope to compete in others! Good luck to everyone! Fish on!

Also fished Saturday for some Pre-fishing. Didn't do to bad either for my first time fishing on this lake! Fished 7am-2pm with a shallow program and did well.
4 Salmon and 4 Browns! Goodbye Cayuga!!
Sorry for the kill shot

Nice job Vogel451, you deserve some fish after last year on cayuga !!
-
Awesome catch all,
I am thinking about heading to Seneca this weekend, first time I have ever fished the lake, any suggestions? I will most likely be at the north end, will have the gear to run shallow or with down riggers. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
-
Very nice fish. I will be there may 1. Turkey hunting in the morning then trout fishing in the afternoon. Can't wait.
-
Nice fish Vogel, hope to fish Seneca this year myself, fished Keuka on Sat. went 7 for 9 all lakers, water temp only 37 degrees. Have you ever trolled dodgers off downriggers? Thought that they may work with this cold water slowed down. If so want lure did you put behind it? Chuck
-
I just added spindoctor/fly off dipsey setups to my spread 2 years ago so my experience is limited. I use Pro-troll E-CHIP flys. I run them off my dipsey rods for lakers 75% of the time. If the fly bite is hot ill run them on my riggers too! As far as the dodgers go I don't use them..
-
Ive read in a Charter Captains logs that he uses "Trout Killers" on Keuka! Funny looking little spoon. I think I might grab a couple.
-
I have caught fish on trout killers on both lakes, have to slow down or they spin.
-
anyone ever run trout killers behind dodgers??

My friend Tony and I hit the lake again this morning. it was a cool 28 Degrees out! Things don't like to work right when its cold... So after a brief struggle at the dock we were under way. The canal was dark as mud. We tried to troll the east shore but there was ALOT of debris. Somehow we dodged it all on the first pass and I decided I just got lucky so we headed out to deeper water. Couldn't get a bite so save my life... Switched progams a few different times. Made out way up to Hector falls. First time there. Was beautiful! Id like to back there on foot. Anyways the water out front was lousy with fish, I tried 5 passes and I couldn't get a bite there either. Trolled back to the south end and started packing up lines. got to the last line on the rigger and it was popped. look back and there is a nice salmon jumping at the back of the boat. Didn't get the skunk today! I told my buddy tony that due to our luck lately we should have gone home with a ZERO and that it would have been good for him  He is getting a little spoiled.
6lb 14oz LL 26"

Fished Today With my Buddy Tony From 6:15-noon. It was a fast paced morning. Lost 3 fish right off the bat along with some of my favorite lures!!! Surface temps 39-44ish. Beautiful morning out there. Went 8 for 10 on Browns and had a double. I couldn't get a bite on my spoon selection today so I let the first mate run the program and we started to catch fish almost instantly. Sometimes you just gotta get outta the same o'l routine.

Thanks Dave, nothing compared to the monster browns I've seen you land though ;D Any giants lately?

Today was one of my best days fishing ever. Big fish all morning. No lost lures or fish. Just awesome out there. One 6lb LL, Two 7lb LL's and a 7lb Brown were the highlights of the day. Many fish released.

Dam . Vogel your making me jealous . Nice job . Your really hammering them this year.
-
Hit the lake this morning early with a couple friends. The fish were turned right off. Total 180 from yesterday, BUT that happens all the time so no biggy. On top of that the boat broke down while we were out there. So Id like to give a big THANK YOU to Nick Overacker of Reel Stories Fishing Charters for coming to tow me in at a moments notice even though he had clients on his boat!! Thanks Nick you ROCK!
-
Nice fish well done.

Havent posted in a while I been fairly busy with work. Fishing evenings mainly. However this weekend we fished the Seneca lake trout derby and had a lot of fun. Fish very hard, if the sun was up we were fishing! Saturday was a slow day for us but Sunday was fast action with a good amount of fish brought to the boat. The Browns were hungry and we were ready! We even had a triple! The largest Brown boated was a 24" 7lb 6oz fatty by my friend Bill. The Largest Landlock Salmon was 25" and around 6lbs and the largest Rainbow was a nice 26" 6lb 4oz Beautiful fish which I brought to the boat! Unfortunately we didn't make the leader board. Glad to be out with a good team!

nice fish Vogel ..............bet your glad you made the move to seneca ;)
-
Thanks Chrony. I've been very impressed with the Seneca Lake fishery. I've already beat my PB fish this spring on Rainbows and Landlocks. 5 times over with the Landlocks.... I hope the rest of the year is good to me
-
Thinking of taking a weekend trip to Seneca wondering if anyone can give me some info on what part of the lake is good for trolling, not looking for anyone's hotspots just a general area north, middle, southern, kind of thing so I can find a hotel and have somewhat of an idea where I'm going Thanks.
-
Awesome fish!
-
Way to hit em hard Vogel! Pretty impressive stringer fer sure! Gotta agree Seneca's fishery is in a lot better place than Cayuga right now.We managed to get out last Saturday as well.....south end outta the Glen.....east side temps were 2-3 degrees warmer than the west, so thats where we spent most our time.....action was slow especially after the rain started.....but we did manage a couple of bows and I got this real nice brown too!

Hey Vogel good decision to fish Seneca this year. Cayuga has been tough. Small landlocks, and a few lakers. I got a nice laker on a deep diver crankbait yesterday, that was a suprise.
-
Been a while since I last posted, boat has been down for an extended period of time. All fixed now though! Hit the lake Sunday from 4:30am-Noon. Very slow, went 4 for 4. South end has been slow for us so we went 6 miles North outta the gate and nothing... trolled back south to hit the mudline and to my surprise it was cold and there were fish there! Here is the one nice fish of the day. 24"+ 6lb LL.

Thanks Johnny, Seneca has lots of healthy fish and its chucked right full of a variety of bait. If I do a morning trip I usually catch atleast one nice fish (A silver 5lbs and up). June is tough in the fingerlakes for me there is to much bait around and its spread out. I really think the bobber fisherman do better. But July and August the bait balls up and the fishing gets better. I'm already satisfied with the season Ive had. But I have a feeling its only just begun.

Agreed! He gets my vote for Cayuga Fish Meister!

great fish guys-2 days til i go to seneca---and i dont troll --dont need to---the bite is awesome--in cayuga too---makes no difference at all--both terrific lakes--12 lb browns out of both lakes--and the lakers are soooo easy---i gave up on the adirondacks almost completely now
-
Little slow for us Sunday, I been staying close to Port on the south end. Fishing is slowing quite a bit down there. I hear people fishing Sampson and Geneva Flats are doing quite well. I only managed two nice Landlocks. Oh well maybe next time. Maybe I should have taken Fishbone with me by the sounds of it! Fishbone, how did you do on your trip to Seneca? How was the shoreline bite? Id really like to hear your report.
-
got out last week and while the action was good at first there was a long lull before we finally got into some more fish....mostly trollin spoons about 60ft down.........not really any water fleas at all......just floating weed mats here and there.....we went 5/6 with an 11 lb laker a 7 lb laker, a 6 1/2 lb brown and nice little tasty rainbow ::)

Nice job Johnny! We have been running 10 miles up on the west shore and getting into them pretty good too. But I hear the south end fall fishing is hot. I cant wait!
We fished Friday ended up 12 for 14. 11 Lakers and 1 Salmon about 20". One really nice 9-10lb Lake Trout. As usual we lost another big fish. It felt like I set the hook on a Cinder block just couldn't boat him. The bite was hot from 6-7:30am and slowed a bit from there. Flasher/Flies took 80% of our fish. Couple of fish off spoons. 70-100 FOW. Cold water on the west shore today. 40 Degrees down 72'.
Caution - Contains BUTTCRACK! :)

Spring is coming soon!!! I cant stop thinking of trolling for Browns and Landlocks. My work situation has been mediocre at best so I can only hope I can be on the water this year as much as years past. My plan.... Fish Seneca till June 1st and move boat back to Cayuga for the rest of the year to be close to home so I can enjoy time on the water without all the traveling. Ill keep ya posted :)
-
Well Spring is here. Sort of... I'm very excited for the 2015 trolling season to start. I hooked up the boat the other day and took it to the lake were it waits for rod holders, batteries, downriggers, fuel and some ice to clear out of the creek. Then its going in the slip come Friday!!! I also attended the Tackle show in Watkins this year and picked up our Plaque we won from last years FLTA Tourney. We are very proud. Hopefully this year has more monster fish in store for us. Lake temps are still down in the 34-35 Degree range and the bite is reported to be still a little slow and a little deeper then usual for this time of year.

Got out today after some problems with the boat basically all week long. Trolled from 7am-10:30am with the girlfriend. Slow morning but the Salmon are starting to show up in the warm water. Went 5 for 6 today on Salmon. Managed one nice Landlock 25 1/2". Didn't weigh it but I'm sure it was 6lbs+. Water is still cold out there with mid lake temps around 38-39.

was that you out there Mr Vogel?? We trolled around the south end from 730-1130....found muddy warm water - 47 dgrees or so.....the clear mid lake water was 38-39......caught 3 lls....one had a lamprey on it which we took care of...also 2 very ugly lamprey marks.....but a second - about 24" - was perfect....and a quick squeeze resulted in eggs sprayin everywhere! what fun!
is Cayuga Lake "back"?

Nice Job Johnny. Yeah that was me :) Weird that there is fully matured eggs in the Salmon... I heard there were like 17 boats on the south end of Cayuga this morning. Haven't heard any solid reports.

I thought the same thing??!!...eggs from a (prob) stocked landlocked?.....I really dont know what that means but it was why I released it......I was gonna cook it but.....prob shoulda.
disappointed to see lamprey right off the bat....the first fish we caught was downright ugly with 2 bad marks on him....and a live lamprey....hopfully theres not many left....
but your fish looked very nice......our other two looked healthy as well....we saw about 6 trollers out on the south end by about 9am........did not go any further north toda.....shakedown cruise....fished with planars only......caught a couple fish on a rainbow minnow lookin stickbait......
lots of flotsam and logs and junk.....muddy water where it was warm and clear where it was cold......
nice mornin.
