Title: Biggest eyewall???
Post by: slipbob on Apr 02, 2004, 01:45 PM: Alright what's your biggest wallywacker. I have lots of pet names for these fish cause they are my absolute favorite fish of all time since I was about 6 years old. They just intrigue me for some reason and I guess everybody has to have a favorite something. My largest walleye was 12lbs from the lower Oswego river a big old harbor eye. How bout you??? Remember no fish stories here please just the facts man just the facts!!!

Post by: eyedoktr on Apr 02, 2004, 06:27 PM: I've been very fortunate in that I have caught quite a few over 10#. Thank you Bay of Quinte and Lake Erie. My heaviest though is 13.7# jigging through the ice on the Bay of Quinte. 32" long

But alas, I must move to Mississippi for work and I won't have too much time or opportunity to fish for walleye. I have truly enjoyed the last month though, what a fish! I love fishing for walleye!!! ;D

Post by: Mackdaddy21 on Apr 03, 2004, 10:36 PM: Most of the walleyes I catch are 1 - 3 pounds. A four pounder isn't a bad one for me.
I was fortunate one evening ice fishing to land a 10 pound and 7 pound walleye on consecutive drops with a jigging rapala. Both were egg laden females getting ready to spawn (it was late february), and I released both. I was fishing alone and didn't get a pic of either, but I would rather release a big female with eggs rather than kill it for a pic.
Since I can't afford to have my fish mounted, I would rather release most any trophy. It's really important in my mind to keep those genes in the gene pool. Most big fish don't taste good anyway. Give me four 12" brookies or three 14" walleyes and that is a meal fit for a king.

Post by: TroutFishingBear on Apr 04, 2004, 07:17 PM: Haven't fished for walleye much in my fishing days, but I can catch a lot of them. I have got a few around 5 lbs. i usally catch the 15"ers mostly, but, with persistence, I will get the lunker one day :D

Post by: JigAwhopper on Apr 07, 2004, 10:57 AM: mine best was 26" so far. It might be peanuts compared to some great lakes eyes but here in NJ they don't get super huge. I don't care much for bass fishing, I think that wallaye fishing is much more challenging and a lot more rewarding when u finally get 'em patterned. If i break the 30" mark, i'll be mounting that sucker! ;D J.

Post by: wny angler on Apr 08, 2004, 01:12 AM: my biggest was a 31 incher caught out of lake erie near dunkirk ny last may ,there were 4 of us casting stickbaits while wading out into the surf at night,3 hrs without a bite then a school moved in and we all caught 3 or 4 apiece averaging 29 to 32 inches before the school moved off.

Post by: Jigwiggler on Apr 10, 2004, 04:42 PM: Longest fish was 32 1/2" out of Lake Erie in open water, that fish only weighed 8 1/2 lbs. It was missing a good portion of its tail. So I imagine it was not able to feed well.
Heaviest fish was 9 lbs 15oz 29" and through the ice. Have caught many over 8lbs. but still looking for that 10.

Post by: oakorchardfishking on Apr 21, 2004, 10:06 PM: average size eyewallys for me depends on the particular lake... chautauqua lake they run smaller so im happy with a bunch anywheres from 15 to 18 inches with the occasional one being around 22 to 24.... then theres conesus lake where they run bigger and average catches are 18 to 24 or so with some close to 30 inches... but the biggest is out of lake erie at 34 1/4 inches and 13.8 pnds. it kind of funny with walleye that big from lake erie, if you have ever noticed, they sorta get a diiferent appearance almost not looking like a walter any more!

I caught this 13.1 lb'er in mid November on Last Mountain Lake here in Saskatchewan while Buzz Bombing. It was late in the year and cold... But worth it.

I know they're in there, but usually caught in the north end of the lake. 2 years ago I saw my friend's son catch what had to be a 15 at Pelican Pte. It was the biggest I've ever seen. Good thing the son caught it instead of Ralph :D or it would of been history!

Post by: friendly fishing on Jul 14, 2004, 05:05 PM: my biggest walleye was 30 inches and weighed in a cool 12.5 lbs caught it on last mountain in the flats near lashers point my father in law caught a 36 incher up there as well still haven't seen a pic of it and he said he released it so I have no real proof but his word I have seen some big eyes pulled from Last mountain this year well hope the next 2 weeks vacation at last mountain bring me a bigger walleye and a nice big jack as well

One of the locals said it would have weighed prob. 11 or 12 lb's in the spring but it didn't see the spring, it's on my wall ;D

31 inches. my first eye ever. caught it by sight, jigging off a dock on the st claire river. i was using one of those propeller jigs, green, with a piece of nightcrawler on it, he was resting in the current behind a piling. just put it right in his face, and he took it so light, i never even woulda known a fish hit

My biggest monster was a 22" 4lb fish through the ice in VT. The fish here make it look like a minnow. :D

Hoping to get a monster this winter through the ice on Champlain, or maybe on the Oswego in May...

Post by: AD on Jan 03, 2006, 10:50 PM: My personal best eye is 6 + pounds, don't knwo the weight as it turned into fillet's and then went into the freezer. But as for my actual actual Rod and reel? 2 pounds maybe?

I know of a river that holds 15 pound hens come spring so I might have an update, at that point

Lost a 24" walleye.

How do I know?

My buddy caught it an hour later and when he filleted it the hook and bait I was using was in it. Some how my improved cinch knot let loose. Now I take extra time to tie my knots. I knew it was a good size fish when I had it hooked for a minute. Live and learn.

Trolling for walleyes has to be the most overated "fishing" experience. I've trolled for them, and caught them, and its like dragging in plastic bag. I'm not a fan. Not criticising, just making a statment of my own opinion.

I look at trolling as a good way to put meat in the boat, and use it only as a last resort...Personally I would rather do pretty much anything else...

She came in at a fat 29" and definately over 9lbs even tho i didnt weigh her. But there are lots bigger than her here. It is possible to ice or boat a fish over 14 lbs and possibility of a record exists also. ;D

This is my largest open water eye. She was 29" and a skinny 8 lbs. She would have been easily pushing the 9 or 10 lb mark if she was at normal size. She also had a tag in her back! I sent in the tag and got the info back a week or 2 later from the VT Fish and Game. It said she was tagged in 1997 and she was 21" then. I caught her in 2007 and she was 29. Come to find out she was in the teens for age. I figure around 14-16 years old. Anyways, I caught her from shore in the spring on a deep diving husky jerk. Also one of the smaller eyes also had a tag in his back, and he was tagged in 2000, and was 17 inches then. That fish was about 24 inches when i caught him.

Yes on the Minnesota side. The only pic we have is from a disposable camera. I wonder if I could somehow scan the picture and then post it. Theres no way its a world record but we brought the pic to the outdoor news booth at the ice fishing show a few years ago and they think it verywell could have been a state record. The fish was released and he had a replica made. The rep. looks nothing like the real fish. kinda disapointing for him.

Did you get those fish in New Hampshire? Don't want the body of water just wasn't aware NH had walleye like that.

It's not that difficult.

1.) Start a free account with Photobucket
2.) Click "Upload" on photobucket to upload pictures from your computer
3.) The photo will be uploaded to the "library."
4.) Find the photo you want in the library or "recent uploads" and click ""Share my Links" after you click on the link icon.
5) Click on the link under the pic that starts with an img and copy.
6) Then just paste that link in the box you type in your replies and post.

So apparently NH fish and game manages some bodies of water for walleye, or is it just natural reproduction in the Connecticut River?

sorry just saw this the big girl was in VT and the other was in the CT river that seperates NH and VT
