A SCARY Wake Up Call For America. (must read)
« on: Sep 28, 2006, 09:55 AM »
About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in
1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of
Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2.000 years
prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a
permanent form of government.  A democracy will continue to exist up
until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous
gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always
votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public
treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to
loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of
history, has been about 200 years During those 200 years, these nations
always progressed through the following sequence:

1.  From bondage to spiritual faith;
2.  From spiritual faith to great courage;
3.  From courage to liberty;
4.  From liberty to abundance;
5.  From abundance to complacency;
6.  From complacency to apathy;
7.  From apathy to dependence;
8.  From dependence back into bondage "
9.  * (see PS).

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St.  Paul,
Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000
Presidential election:

Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million;?  Bush: 143 million;

Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000; Bush: 2,427,000

States won  by Gore: 19; Bush: 29

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:Gore: 13.2; Bush: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was
mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this country. Gore's
territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government owned
tenements and living off government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the
"complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of
democracy, with some 40 percent of the nation's population already having
reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing
that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

PS   *9 If the Senate grants Amnesty and citizenship to 20 million  invaders
called illegal aliens and they vote, then good-bye USA in less than 5 years!

this country is way too divided right now.  We are becoming a nation of p****ies and that is going to be our downfall.

My personal favorite is how everyone says the economy is booming and going like gangbusters.
Michigan is going to be comparable to a third world country while the rest of the economy is booming.

 I hope you're wrong. I'm struggling around here and was considering moving to that boomtown Flint!.

 Seriously, though, I've done a little reading about your devastating loss of industry and it's too bad. Western NY experienced the same thing; and the industry that did stay only pays 10 to 12 bucks an hour for jobs that paid 15 to 20 and up not too many years back.

Thanks Fishryc, as always you tell us what we really need to know-not that we can actually do anything about it. My sister lives in Michigan ( actually two but one is really in the business world ) and she say's they're dying out there. Things have never been this bad not even back in the 80's.
I didn't come here to stay home.

I've never seen anything even close to this bad.  The unemployment rate is the highest in the country.
People with masters degrees are waitressing.  (not like theres anything wrong with that but when you have an advanced engineering degree you should have an engineering job)

All because we put all our eggs in the big 3's basket.   I really don't see any way things are going to turn around here.  Now our housing market is crashing.  Thats the last economic indicator to go.  You can get a great deal on a house but good luck trying to sell one right now.

Some good points but some of the earliest democracies fell from corruption of politics, which some can argue is currently a issue.
Yes there are some indicators that support that all golden ages will eventually reach dark age status similar to the fall of the roman empire and the loss of leadership in europe creating  the middle ages.
One thing I will say that nees to be reformed in American politics is campaign monies and how politicians are puppeted by large intrest groups.
If Chinas PAC can donated mone to presidential elections there will be no room for Americans industrialization but more on the world economy and the lowest bidder wins. Wonder why there is such a poor trade balance betweeen the two nations?
Internet heros give it a rest!
