Just wanted to pass along something that I saw in the news recently. There is a group of radical moon bats on Nantucket who want to essentially enact a law stating that using chum, bait, or lures attracts sharks to swimming areas and wants to ban said activities. There is a zoom meeting tonight on the topic. If anyone has any time to voice their opinion I don't think it would hurt.
Below are some more details.

My god. What a bunch of idiots. Hopefully smarter minds will prevail.
-
Truly unfortunate if enacted.
What are they going to do when they learn sharks are attracted by people in water, eliminate swimming???

I'm someone who does not like the ocean - - It's a big alien environment that human beings have no business being within 100 miles of.
Hence, my own modest proposal (rather than banning swimming) would be to simply fill in and pave over the ocean, and then desalinate the water left over and use it to lots more lakes and streams. ;D

As someone that feels just the opposite of that and feels much more at home when I am on one of the oceans that we all crawled out of... I can not agree! Besides, if you try to fill them in the oceans, the water will simple move to where ever you get your fill from... As to paving the new land, the runoff would not be any good for your new lake and streams... Perhaps, and I don't mean this in an insulting way, some more courses in TerraForming are in order... Just dealing with the planet's worth of desalination byproduct would create a wasteland/sea the size of the Indian ocean (rough guess)... In the end, perhaps this suggestion is a little extreme to deal with a few sharks and your fear of the Ocean... But hey I could be wrong.
Besides all that, you can't do this in a pond or stream;

Alan, that is absolutely awesome.
However, I think (or hope) Jim was being facetious.

He most certainly was.

If he wasn't I would feel very bad...
And to make it up to him I would invite him out on a trip for some shark fishing in my boat!

besides the moonbats, here's your problem. https://www.nantucket-ma.gov/1289/Marine-Animals#:~:text=Nantucket%20is%20home%20to%20four%20species%20of%20seals.,visit%20Nantucket%20waters%2C%20the%20harp%20and%20hooded%20seals.

Well right, legislation saved the seals and now it's said the outer cape has one of the largest seal colonies on the planet. Something like 10k of them. So now you are going to have WAY more sharks in the area. DUH.

Thats great!
Is there a certain rod and reel combo you would recommend for this exact type of fishing? Looking to add a setup to my boat while cod fishing in hopes of cracking a tuna like this.

Shimano Saragosa 14000, it felt like I could have handled an even bigger fish!, It is spooled with 60lb Master Braid line from Cortland, with an 8ft wind-on leader of 80 lb Seaguard Fluorocarbon. Good for "pitching" to sharks also...

Stella or saragosa, hollow core braid...lots of it.
Allan the 14k gosa is beast. I have a pair of 10k's
