Do you have to have circle hooks on tubes while fishing for stripers ? In Maine you have to.

No.  That's a Maine thing.  Actually makes sense to use a circle on tube and worm since you are trolling them at a decent clip.

Circle hooks for bait fishing.
Sure you could say that you were fishing for blues, but every bass you catch will HAVE to be released because it was caught on improper tackle.

Of course that also hinges on whether a game warden even checks your catch...

Fortunately this rule is primarily if you are targeting stripers.

Funny thing is that lots of people have already been using circle hooks for years, solely out of choice.
I started around 20 years ago, first in saltwater and then ice fishing and open water freshwater fishing.
My reason was that I was tired of having too many gut hooked fish from using "J" hooks.

Of course making it mandatory is a little silly if there aren't enough EPO to enforce the rules.
Like the freshwater games wardens, you are more likely to encounter them on "popular" waters but rarely on small "out-of-the-way" waters.

In any case, the use of circle hooks means nothing to me.
It'll have a more profound affect on salt water hook manufacturers.

Yup.  Hundreds of guys out drifting eels in the DMZ saying the same thing.  They get checked all the time...

Amen to enforcement...outside if the canal you are never finding me fishing for stripers.  Unless you are lavaman...he somehow found me randomly one day...I almost died.

I was sitting on a log middle of a RI beach with absolutely no one around.  Local spot in between two well know spots....all of a sudden I see Kevin.  Mind blown.

I believe that they made a recent change. First, the circle hook MUST BE  an in-line circle hook when bait fishing for stripers. if bait is being used on any kind of lure, ie. tube and worm, jig head, etc., circle hook does not apply. exception - using eel skin. Live or dead eels - yes. Unless I read that part wrong.
