Some fish from a very cold weekend trip
« on: Jun 20, 2023, 08:31 AM »
This was a few weeks ago, Western Maine, camped at Black Brook with my friend Cindy. Very, very cold! 50F high temps and didn't really stop blowing all weekend. Managed to land a few 4-5lb togue and doubled up on the downriggers with a 23" togue and a small salmon. Spent the next morning on Aziscohos where dozens and dozens of small salmon were caught.

This was my double-up! I'm more excited than I should have been but it was a rough day.

Weather conditions have been brutal so far this year, so kudos for getting out and making the best of it.

I caught my very first salmon at Azicohos Lake many, many years ago.

Thanks for sharing. Maine is beautiful. Need to go back sometime.

Sounds like a great time other than the weather. I have stayed at Black brook 3 times.I know what you mean about the abundance on dink Salmon. That’s why the biologist want you to keep all the small. When trolling 4 lines there one time we had 3 on at once. Ha ha! The camp ground is convenient to Upper Richardson as well .Nice Togue and Salmon.  Awesome!

Sounds like a great trip Jethro.  Good stuff!

Yeah we could barely set back in time before another was on the hook. I kept as many as I could but I don't have a garden or anything, I'm not going to eat many of them, I feel a little screwed up about just pulling dozens of them out and putting them in the trash can but I guess that's what they want you to do.

Maybe I'll get up this summer and get a bunch to fill my smoker.  Can you freeze smoked salmon??

Do you need to? I thought smoking it was preservative in it's own right.
