spuds for the winter
grumpymoe:
this topic doesn't belong here....and i will move it later....just to let everyone know...especially parents with large families....and people in need...that the potatoe harvest is now underway in the carberry/wellwood area....the diggers always leave alot of potatoes after one pass....unless picked up...they eventually are touched by frost and are no longer usable...current weather is very favourable...i know some growers contact food banks...but with no manpower...they go to waste....alot of persons get out and pick up their winter supply with little effort.....my brother in law and i went out late morning and picked around 500lbs in about 1hr or less....some for friends and ourselves...if anyone decides to pick....please make sure that you ask permission from the grower or harvesters....and please.....do not impede the equipment operators......grump

Hi guys and gals - this "spuds" for you!!
The Potato Garden
An old man lived alone in the country. He wanted to
dig his potato garden, but it was very hard work as
the ground was hard. His only son Fred, who used to
help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to
his son and described his predicament:
Dear Fred, I am feeling pretty bad because it looks
like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this
year. I'm just getting too old to be digging
up a garden plot... If you were here, all my troubles
would be over; you would dig the plot for me.
Love, Dad
A few days later he received a letter from his son:
Dear Dad, For heaven's sake, Dad, don't dig up that
garden, that's where I buried the BODIES.
Love, Fred
At 4 am the next morning, FBI agents and local police
arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any
bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That
same day the old man received another letter from his
son:
Dear Dad,
Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. That's the best I
could do under the circumstances.
Love, Fred

Hey Grump do you know a Buck, who ran a spud harvester? My sister used to work for him in the summer. I think he owns the land where the Carberry Bible Camp was.

Round here we call a ice chisel a spud or spud bar. I thought you had some angle on these ice cutters.
