Let's see your downrigger setups!!
« on: Jul 09, 2011, 06:27 PM »
Alright guys, let's see your downrigger setups. I just purchased my first downrigger so I'm curious to see what everyone has and how they are set up to the boat specifically the mounting styles. Plus, I love seeing pics of this stuff (as I imagine a lot of people on this site do :) ).

Start posting and tight lines!!

Wow. this is the perfect thread. I was going to post my setup to see what others may think. After much thought as to how I could make a quick portable system without drilling a bunch of holes in my boat, this is what I came up with.
I have these rod holders mounted front and rear of the boat and decided to utilize them ( the post and mount anyway)

unscrew the holder to use the post

Notched a 2 by 6 and put a hevy metal plate on it to screw the bolt through and into the rod holder post

downriggers with swivel and quick release mounts and rod holders on plank

It takes only a couple minutes to set up and take down. ;D

I had clamp on's, one Cannon and one homemade, in my old aluminum boat, they worked on my newer boat but I wanted something more permanent, pedestals were so expensive I modified seat pedestals to do the trick. Had a machinist friend make the top and bottom plates out of 1/2'' aluminum plate. The bottom plate is tapped so I can un-bolt the entire pedestal if needed.

I like that seat pedestal idea. Looks pretty slick man.
