It has a coating that peels off if you tie it wrong. I put it on my ice reels and it worked ok but I won't buy any more, for open water power pro is the way to go.
shut up and fish

I tested out slick 8 last weekend for walleye. Works great.  :thumbup_smilie: I was using 10# with a 12#floro leader. Held up great on the rocks.
wooo fish on. Never mind

I've written a review on my blog along with follow ups, for details check them out:

Now, bottom line for me, is that I love the stuff, but it does have issues.  First, don't think it's a superline with the same qualities as say, Fireline and Power Pro.  It's not as tough.  So, don't go thin unless you're planning on using on the ice or for panfish.  I've worked my way up to the 12 pound for my jigging/plastic worm finesse set up and that is what I use it for.

Breaking on the hook set:  Yes, it happened to me on the lighter pound tests, but the 12 lb. has worked out nicely, no break offs on the hook set.  For the lighter pound tests, you can't set the hook like you normally do, you need to use a short snap of the wrist, firm but not too hard.  For the 12 pounds, I don't worry about it.

Fraying:  yes, it happens, you need to retie more often than Fireline or Power Pro, but not as often as mono.

Casts great.

I use a Palomar always with this line.

Is it great for everything?  No.  But, it's great for what I use it for, fishing soft plastics finesse style for bass.

Hope this helps.

I decided to post my latest thoughts on Nanofil on my blog:

Is it for everyone and every application?  Maybe not.  But, for catching bass on finesse plastics or panfish, it's for me.

After a full season on the ice and now having used it for both warmwater and cold water species on the softwater, I like the Nano, it handles better and it is more sensitive ! Having used power pro for quite a few years now, it still has it's niche in the softwater arsenal

I have 6lb on my ultralight set up and I love how far I can cast the smallest spinners with it.  It does have some issues with fraying but I can live with retying more often....especially since I paid $20 for the 150 yard spool.

It's funny a year after it has been on the market and the questions are still flying. Like FatBoy I did a blog write up on it last season and due to how popular google searches are for it, my blog post has been viewed well over 2,000 times.

I was not stoked on it, i found it to be similar in some ways to Fireline Cystal, more so afer it wears then when first out of the box. But that being said Im still using it, my one spinning reel for wacky rig is loaded with Nanofil.

I also tried the Suffix 832, and Im not a fan, the color runs and it is no where near as smooth as Power Pro or the new Power Pro Slik 8. This year I have been working with Daiwa Samurai as well as Sunline FX2, the Daiwa line is awesome, even smoother then Slik 8, but pricey.

the Sunline FX2 is a frigging line,t he stuff looks and feels like a thin rope. Im very interested in seeing how it acts on the water, but Im a little nervous
