Line Storage
« on: Jun 19, 2019, 03:15 PM »
For as long as I can remember I've tied up all my leaders and such on my bass rods and then kept them in the bed of my truck (which has a tonneau cover) and I keep my fishing line in a pocket in backpack (out of the sun) in the cab of my truck. Recently I have been using Berkley Vanish and it's almost like even though the line isn't in direct sunlight, the heat is making it brittle? is that a thing? I can't remember it happening until I started using Berkley Vanish. I mean, don't guys keep line in their boats and rod lockers without a problem? I'm not sure if it's the line i'm buying or how I'm storing it.

Anyone ever experience this? Makes a simple lure change and knot tie a PITA because I've got it do it about 15 times. At first I thought it was that I needed a new leader, but even line fresh off the Berkley Spool won't hold a decent knot.

Berkley vanish will make your fish and lures disappear... ;)  Ask Herb.   ::)
Put it on several rods with different pound test years ago one spring and it was all replaced half way through the summer...

I’m with everyone else. Tried it, hated it, and have never looked back.

I like P-Line a lot. There flouro has been great for me and way cheaper than seaguar.

Agree with the others. The Vanish is junk and it's not even cheap.

Pline is alright.  Ive done seasons with only mono leader and seasons with flouro and noticed no discernable differences in catch rates.  Yet I buy the flouro because its expensive and makes me feel good about myself!   ;D

I use P-line Flouro  Coated  , and for jigging trans optic for leaders  ,it  has always done the job , and it is responsibly priced
But that’s why there are so many choices Jon
So we all can feel  warm and fuzzy while fishing 😜

What about that Spiderwire transparent braid? I got a new Curado K baitcaster coming in the mail tomorrow and was thinking of trying that stuff for braid. I usually use PowerPro. The Spiderwire is cheap so even if it doesn't last long I can spool it twice for the cost of PowerPro.

Sorry about the thread hyjack.

I also tried it and give it a thumbs down like many others here.

A few things to consider when using Mono vs Flouro for leaders or full spool. Mono has more stretch AND will sink slower than flouro. Knowing when to use one over the other can make a difference depending on the scenario and species. Flouro also has a better abrasion resistance. If you can think of times where you watch your line for a bite, you know what I mean. Every advantage you can utilize will ultimately help in your overall success.
