ZGs PB: Moosehead Brookie (09/02/12)
« on: Sep 02, 2012, 06:55 PM »
Got a late start this morning (09/02/12), we were at Lily Bay state park around 9:15 am.  Morning fishing yielded nothing.  Went on tour to get some live bait.  Sewed live bait on the downrigger rod and sent it down about 75'.  Around 2:00 pm I landed a plus 20" brookie that had to be close to or over 5lbs.  I have a couple of pics I will post when I get home.  Release him to see another day.  Caught a 17" salmon also.  Both fish were released to see another day!

Have a safe Labor Day holiday.

Nice job, I would have had a hard time releasing it too. I might have released it to a taxidermist. I want just one 4.5# or better fish for the wall then thats it.

That by far exceeds any brook trout I've caught.  Good job.  Bring on the pics.

I am glad the trout was released. It is the only chance the rest of us have.Maybe we can catch them when they grow another year.

As promised, here is a couple of photos of the brookie I caught.  The third pic is a small salmon.  Enjoy!

Spending this next weekend doing work around the house, then I am back up north for vacation September 15-23....  Can't wait to feel the fly rod in hand!

Have an awesome day!

Wow nice fish must of been a pretty hard release! :o

Honestly, I have no problem releasing any fish.  It brings me great pleasure to see something as magnificent as that trout swim away.  In my short lived fishing career of about 25 years (I didn't really start taking fishing seriously until I was about 22), I can tell you that excluding lake trout, there haven't been that many fish caught in the plus 20" range.  I think I have a total of three Brookies now, a few salmon that were around 20" plus with my largest being 24", and the brown trout I caught on the South Fork of the Snake that was 22".

Every single one of them was released alive to see another day.

And for the record, I have no problem with anyone keeping a legal fish.....

Have an awesome day!
