Fished the housy this evening and had a interesting event happen.  I hooked a fish, which fought hard and took me under a rock where I quickly got hung up.  I broke the 5x tippet, tied on new flies and got back to work.  Maybe 10 minutes and a few drifts later I hook up again.  Fish feels similarly heavy.  Imagine my surprise when I pull out a smallie with the tag fly from the previous break off firmly in its jaw.  More interesting is that I nearly hooked it in the same spot twice, and the fact that this fish was hooked, fought for a while, got hung up, got free and resumed feeding only to be captured again.  Wicked cool.







Turns out euro nymphing works exceedingly well for smallies....but that size or larger can quickly max out a 3w.

I knew that sunfish and brookies are persistent like that, but didn't know small mouth are too.

That’s funny! I’ve recovered flies from branches before, but never a fish, haha.

Fished the housy this evening.  Smallmouth were being really picky so I spent the last minutes of daylight nymphing.  Caught one brown, all colored up.

Had to go back this morning before work.  Missed way more than I caught but they were fired up.  The housy has some healthy wild browns!

I probably won't get to go out again until this weekend, but am curious to see how yesterday's rain (plus any more we get between now and this weekend) affects the stream levels and the attendant fishing action.

Farmington went from 87 cfs to over 300.  Two windows I fish, rising water, dropping water (as long as its clearing).  You can count on trout repositioning to take advantage of new/better feeding lanes.

I attempted to get out last night and made it half way before my 08 tahoe's rear diff locked and caused the driveshaft to snap.  Wonderful way to end my workday.

Some more housy specimens.  Rock bass displaced the browns one night...rather frustrating.

After breaking off a couple sets of flies I decided to throw a streamer on my euro rod and ended up with the largest wild brown I've ever landed in CT.





Makes the recent tough fishing (for me at least) worth it.

Thanks guys.  Intact adipose and no elastomer!  Man the housy has some large wild browns!
