wester maine smelting need help

i live in rumford maine and im new to dipping for smelts and i would like to try any info would be great

Check out bear pond in waterford. Not to far from you. I used to get my first smelts of the year there. It's a really early run. I heard through the grape vine it might be worth heading there. To far for me these days though. 8)

There were 20 ice shacks on Bear pond this winter, and all were doing well on smelts, I would expect that smelting
would be pretty good this spring.  Any tribs to Keoka are closed though.
My life is enjoying the Maine's outdoors, for whats left of it that the states
biologist, haven't ruined.

Is this a new thing with Keoka ???....I used to smelt that as a kid....

how is the fishing in general in keoka? i camped there as a kid, and it was beautiful! love to go up again some day. ;D
