Thanks Dom. Lots and lots of water this year. I just checked my plckle patches. I'll be picking this weekend. Garlic will be ready too. Gonna plant snow peas and carrots in the empty beds.

Yup! I started using them on my Doctor's suggestion many years ago when I was battling middle age spread. He's a wise old family doctor and that's exactly what he told me. It'll slow you down.

Personally I find them very relaxing to use.

Garden update, first harvest of the season is in the books and it's pickle time! The battle with blight has begun, I was hopeful with all this dry hot air I'd get a semi break, but it's on like Donkey Kong. Even the peppers seem to have it, first time I've ever seen that. But overall she's thriving Baby! With the morning rain I'm gonna risk not watering tonight so everything got a good coat of Copper Fungicide. The stupid moths have finally left our Brussles Sprouts alone and the Snails and Slugs seem to be fading fast.

Man I love to eat what I grow, catch and kill

Nice, Ed!    :thumbup_smilie:

Nice haul Ed.
I harvested a batch of pickles this morning.

Already have a gallon of refrigerator dills going so, looks like I'll be doing some canning this week. Tomatoes and zucchini are coming along nicely. My jalapeņos are growing fast too. Hopefully it'll cool down a bit this so I can replant the empty beds .

Pulled the garlic just now. I always wondered if cutting off the scrapes was worth it. So I let the scales go on two heads. The ones on the right were allowed to grow a full scape. The heads on the left were cut off. The difference is dramatic.

My advice is, cut the scapes off as soon as they appear.

Anyway, I have garlic for a while.

..it's just like pinching suckers on a tomato plant...it allows the plant to apply all it's energy into the fruit ( bulb in this case)..nice haul of everything... I've harvested some  everything so far except tomatoes... patiently waiting...

Yup!
I've been aggressively pruning my tomato plants this year. Still watching them closely.

You ever use the garlic scrapes to make pesto? Man is it good with some fresh seafood and pasta.

I have and you are spot on, good stuff!

I actually use ice cube trays to freeze my pesto. Freeze it, popped 'em out and freezer bag them. makes using the right portion a simple task
