Ive got a 5hp Nissan 2 stroke outboard. It doesnt say what the gas to oil ratio is, whether it be 20:1, 50:1, ect. I dont have the books on it either? what do you suggest I use.

I have a 6 horse Mercury and I just use 6-0z. per gal of gas. Works fine for me. It's a little extra but better than not enough. Easy to remember too. I basically use that mix in all my small engines with no trouble at all. Including lawnmowers.

Try Amsoil. It mixes at 100:1. I have been using their oils for over 25 years in outboards, weed trimmers, chain saws and any 2 stroke without any problems. We even used it in a 58 evenrude 18 hp for at least 5 years with no problems. 100:1 keeps that much more oil out of the water.

I also use amsoil, but I run it at 80:1 because I am a worry wart.

oil

This is what I use. After using it for a few years I went through the shelves in my garage and gave all of my Johnson/Evinrude oil to my neighbor. At 80:1 there is no smoke, it starts more easily, and I NEVER foul a plug.

Amsoil is the real deal, not a gimmick!!!!!

No, I do not sell the stuff or represent the company in any way.

Back in the 80's I knew a guy that would run it 150:1 in his RM125 motocross bike to prove to people not to worry about 100:1.

20:1 or 24:1 was what most everyone else used, 50:1 was considered radical and 100:1 was insane. He never had problems with that motor. He was a mechanic so he would watch the engine and found no adverse effects. He was also a dealer. He believed in amsoil products so much he would run the heats with their motor oil in the gearbox and drain it all out for the final to prove it is so good it worked with just a film on the parts for a short duration.

I've always found that 50:1 works on generally any 2 stroke engine.

yup AMSOIL ALL THE WAY!!  I have it in my pickup 5w30, I have it in my chainsaw, and ice auger 100:1, the sabre one.  I think they make one just for outboards too.   ;D

They make a special oil for outboards because they run at cooler temps than air cooled power equipment.
