Hope the bluegills on Honeoye like them ;D

Credits to Davie McFail for the basic pattern.

A few more of those for a friend of mine  :whistling:  and I'm switching over to building my next rod. 7' med light spinning rod. Time to replace my 30 year old St Croix's.

The tiny green eyes really make the fly. Good work!  :thumbup_smilie:

What did you use for the case along the back?

I love the evolution of a "new to me" pattern. It's kinda like cooking. Yeah, you could use a recipe and follow the leader, but, the creative side of life is way more rewarding, inclusive of failures.  ;D

Hook - Muroko #12 barbless pupae
Thread - 8/0 Uni, Cahill
Back -thin Skin natural
Body - yellow embroidery thread (2 strands)
eyes - fluorescent green mono ( 2 strands of 8lb)
Thorax - mixed dark grey hare's ear and green sparkle dubbing
legs - natural barred wood duck flank (thanks KP)
horns - natural barred wood duck flank ( thanks again KP)

I can do a step by step if y'all like. I need to tie a few more anyway and there's some good basics in this fly.
Forming a body taper using weighted materials
Weaving
Making eyes
Mixing dubbing
Thread tricks

It's a good basic fly.

My proportions could be better, but that's just me looking at it. Fish won't give a hoot.

Nice fly RG!!!  I copied and modified that off Davie McFail last year. He makes it looks so easy but the original is a bear to tie! Love his videos for learning and playing with patterns! A small black bead at the front was added to some if I was looking for a little depth on the swing...

He makes it look easy doesn't he Jay :-\   Wish I had his vise. Some day....maybe someday.
Not quite winding up buggers, but not that bad.

Thanks. That's a recipe I'm going to save.  There may be several good basics in it, but you put them all together beautifully. I've used all kinds of things for pupal casings, but I'm not familiar with the "Skin". Can you tell me a little more about that?

Tank and I hit a perfect march brown hatch this evening- enough bugs that the fish were grabbing everything that looked decent but not so many bugs that you cant compete...
My ashes can go here...

I love watching and listening to him. I have tied my fair share of flies and consider myself "prety good" but feel like I have 7 thumbs when trying to keep up w him  ::) Also, my vise is fine till I watch him...

Don't look at this vise Jay......just don't :whistling:

Thin skin is a sheet material that's pretty tough for shell backs and stuff.
Thin Skin

You could use Scud Back too. Or just a strip of freezer bag in a pinch. Color it up with a sharpie and you're off to the races.
