Well done RG, nice contributions to the thread.

I've been away from the bench as my brother passed away. He's the one the actually got me into fishing when I was a little guy so lots of fishing memories with him growing up.

In any event, I'm back at it tonight  and I'm tying  some more hoppers of a different variety:

Sorry for your loss Bart. I'm sure he'll be with you on the river and at the bench.

Very nice hopper.

RG  thanks anyway.  I guess I will have to improvise.   Very small screws around the frame.  BTW,  nice crappie flys. Geo.

Hey geo...

I believe this is the fella you need to contact for Medalist parts.

Plenty bright and flashy Sean. Be sure to post some results for us.

Been working on a Hellgrammite pattern again.

It's getting there. I've caught a lot of fish on a similar pattern.

geo...

Yea it is kinda weird. I don't know why it's been changed. It used to be a site with straight forward info and a page dedicated to all the upgrade and standard parts he has available for Medalist reels including their prices. Did you try the email or phone # he provided at the bottom of the page?

Killed time watching the snow fall.  Tried my hand at Copper Johns and Prince nymphs with what I have on hand.  Look kinda like they're supposed to..............

Look pretty good.
Time to start collecting feathers.

Goose flight feathers are easy to come by this time of year and into the early summer. Just find a park or field where they congregate and go for a walk. I get mine along the Canal park in town. Biots can be dyed or just colored with sharpies. If you're around the Finger Lakes search out the fields where the snow geese hang out.......good source of black biots and sometimes white. The biots are a bit smaller than turkey, but work well.

Fly Tiers are the road kill's nemesis. I collect all of my squirrel tails from road kills. I've collected raccoon, fox, coyote, deer, turkey, goose and even a duck or two for materials.

Domestic turkey farms can provide a lifetime supply of white biots in the fall. Buy a bird for thanksgiving and hit them up for a couple wings. I don't hunt any more, but my friends save me all kinds of wings, pelts, fur, tails and feathers. I get a supply of materials and they get jigs and flies in return.

If you don't feel Like hunting, biots are available at the craft stores, although not very good quality.

This drawer is pretty much overflowing with fur, hair and feathers.

It's what happens after many years of tying.

Yup!
Here's my Prince Nymph.

I was gonna tie some of those. One of my favorites. Thanks for reminding me.

Also, here's something I've used  for years to help control unruly materials while tying. My rubber band keeper.

Rubber band, piece of 3/8" dowel, little piece of shrink tube and a pin. Put the tube on the rubber band and shrink it a little. Drill a hole through the dowel and one for the pin. Voila! It pretty much just stays on my vise. The spring material holder is great for longer stuff. The rubber band will hold stuff even on the nose of the jaws.

Maybe we should start a "Tips and Techniques" thread.
